I'm noticing lots of small spots of gha or a brownish hair algae popping up around the tank. It's only growing on certain spots. Can someone id and tell me a solution to this before problems emerge?

Running carbon, fuge, and a bit of phosguard. Nitrate is 2 to 5 atm and phos is unknown

Do you have any urchins or hermits? (I prefere them to snails.) Sally Lightfoot crabs are another good algae eater scooting around scrapping rocks.
 
You've got a fuge going so I'd say just remove the algae (looks like GHA, but not exactly flourishing) while siphoning with your next water change. Then watch and see if the fuge and cuc can control it from there. Algae are always present so there's no real eradicating them without starving out everything else.

You're reacting early which is great, manual removal is your first defense. You can up your fuge photoperiod as well if you suspect a nutrient imbalance. I'd do that before using any phosphate removal media, but that's just my .2

Thanks! The problem with my fuge is its too good. I went from 5 to 2 in one night based on my saliferts test
 
Get a Phosphate test done, you don't have much but I'm like you I jump on it if I see a potential issue arising.

So that's the double edged sword right? You don't want to strip it too much but you want to control a specific algae. Your best bet, even though it kinda sucks, is manually removing what you don't want and finding a cuc that will control it once it's pruned back. Nothing will fix it for you even at the length it is.

I say siphon while removing with flow off. That limits the chances of strand flying around sticking somewhere else and spreading.
 
I'd want PO4 test results before moving forward

If PO4 is high then consider lowering both NO3 and PO4
If PO4 is nonexistent consider raising it to create an environment where both will be consumed together
 
We all get algae, part of regular keeping our tanks looking good is the maintenance involved in cleaning our glass, plucking unwanted algae out etc etc. I wouldn’t call this a problem, a normal part of reef keeping. My current tank has one rock that loves to grow GHA my acros look good, and are growing, I don’t think much about it. Once a week I scrape it off and move on.

This is a common occurance unfortunately. Too many and they start starving to death which just dumps the nutrients they've sequestered back into the system. Keep an eye on them if possible.

Phosphorus advice can be confusing, keep in mind we can only test for Dissolved inorganic phosphorus (aka PO4, phosphate, orthophosphate). Corals are also using Particulate Organic Phosphorus (POP) and Dissolved Organic Phosphorus (DOP). From the research I've read it seems PO4 anywhere betrween .03 and .5 is probably acceptable.
