I'm going to be moving my 80 gallon tank from upstate NY to Colorado in April of 2019. I've pretty much decided that I'm going to move my fish and live rock in the back of my truck(it has a cap) and have the coral fostered here and sent to me when I'm settled. I know I've read posts where people have made a long distance move like this, what I'd like to know is the particulars...how did you provide water flow and heat? I know we'll be stopping to stay in motels at night..so we'll be able to bring stuff inside then. But if anyone has advice on what type of equipment I might need to accomplish this, I'd be much in your debt!

Bump, #reefsquad anyone know of anyone that's done this?

A power inverted for your vehicle, a small, efficient heater and small powerhead, and some beneficial bacteria to handle the stress would be a good move. I also wouldn't feed during transport.

For best results I would even do a water change mid-way so have several buckets of pre-mixed water. The stress of moving is going to cause any coral in there to slime, fish to be dirtier, etc.

That would be my course of action.

All good above. Would some Prime or Amquel and a ammonia badge be warranted?

Couldn’t hurt! I like a proactive approach (bacteria like BioSpira) but it would be a great idea to have plan B on hand. I agree!

The move is getting close...have two coolers, one for fish and one for live rock. Cooler tops will be closed because of sloshing...so we plan to drill holes in the tops for the equipment cords to feed through. I’m unsure about how much water to put in with the live rock...we can’t cover it with water because it will be too heavy to carry. Maybe half full? I figure a power head for circulation and maybe a heater? The fish will have both. Will carry extra buckets of made-up saltwater. No feeding. Amqell, etc for ammonia buildup. Prob some bottled bacteria. Would an air stone be better for the fish...not blow them around as much? Suggestions appreciated guys. What am I not thinking of? What could I improve on?
