I was wondering does anyone like the blue damsel. I personally think it's one of the beautiful fish in the hobby. Has anybody ever breed them before. I know a lot of people don't like damsels cause of their aggressive nature. Mine , I have two, don't bother each other just shake each other's tail at each other. They're my fist fish in my nano reef tank I started up after being out of the hobby for a couple of years.
They're funny to watch when feeding as the fat one seems like he's going to miss out. I've housed them before without any problems before but have a refugium for detention if they acted out towards any new comers. I don't see many talking good about these fish just thought I shine a little light on them. Sorry for bad pics.

I will not buy one again. Last time I had one in a 75g and he bullied my six-line to death. Literally.

I just ripped my entire rockwork apart in 180G to catch an orange tail I had. The coloration on that fish is incredible, the blue glows like its electric. But it bullied my rubyhead and a small blue throat trigger to death, and then started going after other wrasse. So much for the orange tail being one of the more "docile" species...

I had one in a tank with a 8 inch Queen Angel. The damsel took over a shell near the front center of the tank. Every time the Angel swam by, the Blue Devil would nip at the Angels fins and then quickly hide back in the shell. Drove the me and the Queen crazy. I eventually re-homed the Devil. I Was told that you need to keep a minimum of 3 in the tank to prevent aggression towards other species. This will keep them busy chasing each other. I agree that they are beautiful fish and have been considering trying a group of them next time.

I have a springer's and love her (guessing left alone they're females like clowns?). never seen her get aggressive on anything, but also doesn't hide from everyone. My bangaii cardinal seems to dislike her the most. 10/10 would buy again, although I'd like to try some of the other more peaceful damsels like rollands azure or traceys

You’d have been better off getting a pair of azure or yellow tails. The blue devils get much more aggressive. Regardless, damsels are not suitable for a nano tank. You won’t likely be able to add any more fish to your tank without them being picked on. I love damsels though. I have 12 azures in my 210. Some of my favorite fish in the tank.

I have a true Springer's which is just as brilliant blue but peaceful and I have a starkii which isn't too bad either. Love damselfish.

Talbot's are another nice fairly passive damsel.

Rolland’s and tolbots are both pretty peaceful. I had a pair of Tracy’s for a while but they were a bit evil. Traded them to the LFS. Not nearly as bad as the blue devils but I wouldn’t buy them again.
