Hey folks,

I want to share with you something that I have been working on for my system build. Because my needs are going to be extremely unique and high, this design had to be well thought out.

I called this design the Canyon Sump Design because of its functionality. I wanted to incorporate as many filtering aspects that I could with the limited space provided. The main ideology behind it was to try to maximize water contact with as many filtering stations as possible. But, the key to all of this is to channel the water into the areas that are filtering.

So, here is the design...

The details and the build is found in the blog that I write. I will post more pictures later on.

I would like this thread to serve as a forum for discussion on either the build, functionality, or design. Lets get some discussion going!

Link didn't work. I went through the blog and found it. Here you go.

I'm curious on how much flow you plan to send through the entire sump. Also, I think the inverts in the benthic zone would be fed by detritus. So wouldn't it defeat the purpose by mechanically filtering before the benthic zone?

By the way, very nice looking build. Hope to see more updates in the future.

Thanks for the edit. Should have checked the link myself.

As for the benthic zone before mech filtration, my comment is as follows:

Skimmers never skim all of the detritus that collects in the sump. In fact, pods and other micro inverts add to the detritus. Ever see an unvacuumed sump with a in-sump skimmer? Its disguisting. So if you move some of that detritus with a powerhead towards the benthic zone, then you can achieve your purpose.

For flow, I will add a single MJ1200 to start. I have to see how that works as I don't know how the flow will be until I have the water circulating.

As for the updates...updates are happening very frequently, as my entries are catching up with my build. Stay tuned, as I will be posting on the overflow design.
