This video is to clear-up certain myths about when a Reef Aquarium is actually cycled and ready to receive it's first fish.
Hope you enjoyed this video and are welcome to check-out others on my YouTube Channel. Eddie

I really appreciate the video and it is informative.

I use macro algae to "cycle" the tank. The algae will consume ammonia first preventing the ammonia spike. Then as the bacteria build up, the algae will consume more and more nitrates. So during the cycle process you don't get an ammonia spike but a possible nitrate spike. The cycle is complete when the nitrates drop down.

So what I do is start the tank with macro algae, wait a week, then add a single male molly and don't add food for a week. After that feed a single flake per day. After 3-4 weeks the tank is ready for the saltwater only fish.
