Does anyone get insanely angry about the fact that it seems you must always purchase accessories? A good example being the kessil, and or Ai lights. You have to buy the light THEN you must buy the mount. What about a par meter? Buy the par meter THEN buy a wand that for some reason is 50-70 dollars because reasons. Reefbrite for instance wants 30$ for 4 thin metal brackets that should probably ship with the light. I mean honestly all of these things should come with the purchase. Saltwater is already insanely expensive. There is no need to be poking people.

I don't really see it that way. More of the hobbyist planning and looking at the bigger tank vision and plan. Lights are just that, lights. You can install DIY, custom hood, rails, among other things or just use what they offer. They are sold separate for this reason. I mean why include something that maybe 50% of the people won't use if not more?

Not to mention there is a tank standard. Some are EURO brace, some rimless, some rims. See the conflicting issues? There are some things that this would make sense like some cables or connectors but again base product vs. masses (hobbyists doing things differently).

I will give you that the hobby as a whole is lacking standards similar to what the PC has in place for peripheral devices.

so they add those brackets in to the box with the light and now the light costs $30 more. Some people want a hanging kit instead (hey, its just a couple cables and hardware nbd right?), so thats another $20 on top of the price.

I would rather they keep it separate and allow me to choose and not require me to pay extra for something I dont want.

Now if you are looking at Brand X and they include brackets at the same price and Brand Y does not. that is just being a crafty consumer and paying attention to what each product actually IS.

Why doesnt every tank come with the sump, filters, lights, sand, rocks, heck they could even include a coupon for "free fish" like the ant farms do.
