Okay, y'all is the fish naming curse real?!

Years ago when I was first getting into reefing I had a fish store owner tell me that if I named my fish they were doomed to die. He told me any time he named a fish something would happen to it- he told me a stories like how he came in and somehow the fish would have jumped out even with a canopy top on the tank and died. So ever since I'd be lying if I said I didn't have that in the back of my mind.

Now, getting into having a tank again I want to know if anyone has heard this too. Also, feel free to comment other fish keeping lore

All my fish have names. My favorite is "Benny the Blenny."

But mark my words, now that you brought this to my attention something is going to happen to one of my fish... and it'll all be your fault! :winking-face-with-tongue:

Never heard of this one… I have a few fish that are named but that’s usually the ones that my son picks out at the LFS. I used to name my mice when I did animal research… really bad idea.

I have a Springeri damsel, named Jerry, going on 9 years, and Mr. Cooper the Copperband (which I just found is a girl ) for at least 7 years.

I say - givem' names. It makes them seem more like family

My wife named our Bicolor 50/50 and the azure damsel is Sheldon. Sheldon is OCD doesn’t like when I move things and let’s me know very quickly that he doesn’t approve of the placement. Have to glue things down on bigger rocks or plugs with stems.

Edit the coral banded shrimp is Bubba Gump.

Amazing names.

I’ve had bad luck with names fish
Had a Midas blenny named “banana peal” he eventually jumped the one time I left the lid cracked
Also had blue tang named “dori” get herself stuck in a lager empty shell and didn’t make it.
I’ve started referring to either by their hobbyists names or by their color
“How’s fox face” or “yellow boy” referring to the yellow tang.

I have two fish half black angel napoleon and a blue velvet damsel named Stalin both have been banished to the swamp

Ricky and Lucy black clowns
Jimi hendrix black spot foxface

I have had a clownfish named Gilbert and not sure if this counts, but I also have a clam named Kyle. And I’ve have Gilbert for about a year and a half…..Kyle has been a recent development, I’ve had him about a month.

I know a Kyle… definitely a fitting name for a clam.
