The Illuminata Conspiracy, a rimless build

Frag Tank Drawer

Some pics of my frag tank drawer build:

Top down shot of 7g frag tank from inside the cabinet. Good views of overflow, vortech mp10, and telescoping return pipe. Due to some 1/2" fittings that I used, my drain system can only handle about 35-40gph. The drain runs along a U-shaped channel, allowing the drawer to be pulled out.

Shot with drawer pulled out. The drawer is rated for 110 lbs, however without counter-weights the cabinet nearly topples forward! To solve this I placed a few concrete pavers on the bottom shelf. You can see the lining under the tank(ridged plastic) that should prevent spilled water from pooling and weakening the drawer.

Shot of cabinet all closed up. Frags are lit on a reverse schedule to the display and almost no light is visible outside of the cabinet. Fragging supplies and such are kept in the top drawer and the leds are mounted underneath the drawer. A safety stop prevents the drawer from being opened while the cabinet door is closed.

Let's look inside. :)

Lit up with frags and eggcrate. Opening the drawer about half-way gives me some good top-down shots.

A look inside. Notice the downward slope of the return line and how tightly everything fits together. Also how close the leds are- no optics for me!

My favorite time of day. :)

Close ups of the overflow line? I've thought about something similar, as I've got 2 entertainment center towers on either side of my tank. Looks good. Save for the stain on the towers.

Something to look forward to when I REDO my sump. Which calls for draining the tank. :(

All in all..... You've done a fantastic job!

Looking good!
Thanks!
That drawer is the coolest tank add on I have ever seen. Nice job!
Thank you. A lot of extra work putting the drawer in, but worth it.
Great job on the setup!
Thanks Sunny!

Thanks a lot. I'll try to get some shots of that line. Sounds like you've got a project on your hands. Nothing worse than a sump that isnt working out.

Thank you redtop. I've had my share of sloppy setups and didnt want to make the same mistake this time. :)

Wow! What a great set-up. Your scape is awesome! The whole set-up is so clean and well thought out. Frag tank is the coolest. Very inspirational. Great thread. Thanks for sharing.

Still cant get over the rock work!! Looks amazing!!!!
Thanks man. Pond foam really opens up a lot of possibilities.

Very cool, love the frag tank.
Thank you, Brett. It was a good compromise and is helping my marriage. :)

Thanks for the kind words. I tried to solve all of the problems that my old tank had.

Very nice setup, I am looking forward to watching the progression of it. Some very ingenious ideas.

Enjoying this thread and the 13 point build process!

What are your plans for fish? I always wanted to setup one of these illuminata's as a cold water tank. My wife would kill me if I brought another one home. LOL

So far I have: 2 specialty clowns, melanurus, convict tang (for now), bristletooth (for now), sleeper goby, and a maroon clown who will be exiled very soon. Some of those are left overs from my old tank. Since Ive been covering this one, I may look into a fairy or flasher wrasse and possibly a pistol/goby pair.
