The Manjano removal experement.

Yesterday I got a private message on Facebook today from a local reefer asking if I wanted any FREE live rock..... Well of course I said yes thinking it was just a few pieces. I get to her house last night and she has a 55g full of LR.... BUT..... It has sooooo many Manjano's on it, they looked like Green Star Polyps swaying in the current...... She said isn't it beautiful? LOL um hahaha yeah....

So I now have a spare 40br in my spare room filled with Manjano infested LR. I mean, don't get me wrong the LR is beautiful stuff, totally covered in Coraline. But I have my work cut out for me..... I'm going to try different ways to rid these rocks of the infestation and post it in this thread.

In all the mess I found one 3" rock covered in what I think are very bleached Ricordea.

Manjano infestation!

those are tulip nems. they are terrible. DON"T put them in your tank. you will never eradicate them. nothing eats them, nothing kills them. they multiply faster than aiptasia and every time you pick them off 10 more pop up in their place... I would cook that rock before using it.

Not totally true, file fish will eat them.

I'm gonna experiment with them. I just tried dipping them in 1.045SG water to see if they would release on their own and well after 10 min in that they didn't release...

Go with fresh water dip and they may let go. I have had good luck with Aptasia doing that.

And if really wanna wipe it out. Boiling hot water works well.

You could use this as an opportunity to see what will actually get rid of them...

Ha ha I am! I just tried a fresh water dip and that didn't work.

Try using muratic acid or peroxide and it should nuke them good......muratic acid will actually clean the rock like new!

I just injected a bunch of them with a syringe full of hydrogen peroxide. They didn't like that at all....

I use a thinnned out Kalk paste...thinned with Vit C. Injected right into aptasia and mojano, dead and gone in about 30 seconds.

Haha I just used Kalk mixed with hydrogen peroxide, that makes them shrivel up like salt on slugs....

Haha I'm winning, I took all the rock out yesterday and scraped all of the glass in the tank and this is what I pulled out, just from the tank!

That's about 3/4" deep of just nems.
