I have seen a few videos from individuals posting on Facebook. Looked pretty bad to me. Not as bad as I am sure it is on the coast. Have you ever gone to a town that have you have visitWd almost weekly and it is completely gone? Only debris everywhere. Slabs with no houses on them. No landmarks that you can even get your bearings? That was Cameron after Rita and then again after Ike three years later. And now again 12 years later. Hurricanes suck.

That’s how it was for me. I went to big pine key and key west after Irma came and destroyed everything. About 3 weeks after the hurricane we had a football game in key west. My mom grew up in the keys and I have family there still so I’m always there and it’s absolutely heart wrenching to see the damage of the place you’ve grown up especially when you’re friends with the owners of these places. It’s terrible. Glad ur ok @Fin

Holy Moly - so sorry bud. . . . Geez. . . . . . Are Our stormes getting more fierce or is it my imagination these days?

I think it has something to do with a warmer atmosphere for the storm to draw power from?...I'm sure @RichtheReefer21 has a much better understanding and explanation of what's going on.

Im no expert by any means. But the jet stream in both north and south hemispheres are dynamic. But the el niño and la niña phenomena that occurs in the pacific drive a majority of our weather patterns. They control the hurricane season, purely based off ocean temps.. theres so many variables that contribute to the conditions across the lands. All over the planet.

A hurricane in the gulf is currently pushing against the north american jet stream. Forcing conditions in the arctic to change as the pressures eb and flow around the globe. Everything is connected in the atmosphere. Like a web in motion.

Thats why forecasting is so unreliable. A huge storm plowing through the carribean causes a monsoon in the Arizona dessert, and causes plumes of moisture to barrel up the atlantic coast, giving way to uncommon supercells through the northeast. As Laura moves north, it will cause a ripple in the arctic that will effect northern siberia's summer next week, pushing arctic air south, which ripples against something else. The earths atmosphere is like a 360° bubble. Never ending change. There is no "norm".

Biloxi still had numerous vacant lots along the beach from Katrina. The things storms take will always leave a hole. It's never the same. I was amazed I could remember some of the things that were missing. Including most of the beach. The thing I found to still be there was the sense of community with the locals. I was very sad to see most of the colorful small homes behind the mansions gone. I will always remember it that way.

@Fin There probably going to be a lot of people like yourself trying get back to town when people are allowed back in. Lots of traffic. You may want to see if you could get a hotel room closer in. Just a thought. Glad you and the wife are safe.
