I would never recommend law enforcement as a career for anyone nowadays.

I've edited this post now 6 times and can't put down what I really want to other than this. You are correct. It is a difficult field to recommend to people be they strong or true of heart. Wish you and your family all the best.

My son has had very little experience with anything other than a BB gun. I'd like to keep it that way. We don't hunt.

I respect that. You can, however, teach gun safety with said BB gun. You probably already have Same rules apply should you be interested. I've taught ours with my real one before I brought it into the house. I also do my part by securing essential things to prevent accidents. So not loaded, proper locks, etc.

Our home protection is our GSD. You won't get in the house. You won't get to us walking. We are trained how to handler her because she has a lot of drive. Great family dog but we had so much to learn due to her protective nature. Have been offered several times by law enforcement to buy her and we say no every time regardless of how much money they want to throw at us. So similar to guns we protect everyone with her.

Dogs are great early warning be it a little or big dog. Saves us, the responsible home owner, from having to make a difficult decision should things become to self defence.

I have been doing manual labor. Digging up fence posts! Yay! I have to rebuild my bamboo privacy screen. 16 years of Louisiana weather has done it in. It used to look like this:

All gone now. My retirement gift to myself was a new hot tub, so I need to make sure I don't scare any of the neighbors. . I had to order the tub from my local pool place and learned that the manufacturer is in California and they have been closed since March because of Covid-19. It was supposed to reopen on June 1st, but nope. Anyway, that is what I have been doing.

It does have a thermostat. The tub that I have now is 30 years old. It has seen better days. Time for an upgrade.
