Welcome to R2R...tank looks great.

Let’s start with Hello to all of you members that make R2R such an excellent resource for reef hobbyists like ourselves.

I’m Tumey, pronounced like “ 2me “. I’m a Maintenance Machinist for Arconic Davenport Works, formally Alcoa. I will always know this great company I work for as Alcoa. Growing up with them in my home town community & seeing the plant daily it couldn’t be anything other than Aluminum Company of America ( Alcoa ) to me.

I’m not a big social media guy or have an outgoing personality but I’ve learned a lot about Reef Keeping and continue to learn from reading posts in the forum. I have finally decided to pull the trigger & join the community.

I’m definitely a nature & animal lover. Here at home we have 3 hounds & a golden retriever, 3 parrots, a cat, a chinchilla & my tank.

I currently have a 150 gallon Oceanic, closed loop with dual durso overflows. The tank has been setup for pretty close to 15 years. It’s nothing fancy but I’d have to say I’ve been pretty successful with a low dollar setup that sometimes doesn’t get regular maintenance. Filtration is a Pro Clear 150 trickle, bio balls removed, original venturi skimmer setup driven with a Taam Rio 2500. Danner Mag 18 return, Little Giant 2-MD-SC Recirculating Pump that moves approximately 400 gph & an Ice Cap 3k Gyre in tank to help with flow. I have an Odyssea T5 Metal Halide combo running 4 x 54w ATI Blue Plus & 2 x 250w Ushio 20k bulbs.

My tank is LPS dominant with some leathers, Z’s & P’s, mushrooms & ricordea. As for my fish I have a mated pair of False Percula Clowns, A Male Blonde Naso just starting to get his streamers, A Pacific Blue Hippo, A Six Line Wrasse, 3 Banggai Cardinals, A Bi-Color Blennie, A Tail Spot Blennie, A Male Lyretail Anthias, A Carberryi Anthias and 2 each, Citron & Green Clown Gobies. There’s a small CUC consisting of 2 fairly large Brittle Stars, Some Emerald & Hermit Crabs, A mix of Cerith, Nerite, Margarita & Turbo Snails, Several Peppermint Shrimp and I’m Sure there’s other life I’ve never even seen before somewhere in the tank!

Before acquiring the setup I had several freshwater aquariums and have kept different reptile species over the years.

If you’re still with me thanks for reading this far!

I work 3rd shift from 11pm till 7am so I operate on a completely different schedule than most. I may not reply to a post or answer PM’s until after I wake. My day usually starts at 2:00pm CST & then there’s other days like today when here it is almost 4:00 and I’ve yet to go to bed.

I’ll be creating a build thread at some point in the near future for my new Crystal Dynamic Aquarium Mfg 235 gallon peninsula. It’s sitting on the stand empty just waiting to get wet. I still need to decide on the plumbing layout and what return pump I’ll be using. Anyway, I’ve probably brought someone to tears with boredom but Thank You Again for reading my lengthy introduction.

Iowa, which makes you an Iowanian! ;) My Father grew up in Carrol Co, in a small farming community of Dedham. Spent many a day pheasant hunting in Iowa as kid when we drove out there to visit family.

My parents moved the family to Southern California when I was a young teenage kid. We lived there for two years then they bought back the same house we moved out of ! ;Meh My siblings & I were pretty bummed we had to move back to Iowa not to mention back into our old house! Now that I’m grown I do appreciate living in the Midwest. Iowa’s Great!
Thanks for welcoming me!

Greeting to Iowa from Iowa!

Have you checked out greater iowa reef society? It's been pretty slow with facebook groups taking over, but has very nice members. They have a frag fest twice a year can you can score amazing deals on all sorts of coral.

Of course reef2reef is the best, hands down.

Does GIRS have their own website? I haven’t checked them out but years ago when Joe Eckman ( now owner of Coral Haven in Bettendorf, Iowa ) was still working for ( Aquatic Environments in Davenport, Iowa) I did attend a monthly GIRS meeting at his home.

I could live without all this white stuff we’re getting right now!

Thanks for the Hello

Yep, GIRS has it's own forum and Facebook page. There is also a newer Iowa Facebook group too. The GIRS forum isn't very busy right now, but it generally picks up in spring. There are 2 fragfests a year, one is always in Des Moines and the other is in Eastern Iowa and location varies.

Lucky DM missed all the snow last night! I am ready for spring....

!!! Welcome to R2R !!!

Welcome to R2R. Iowa, is one the few states, I have never been to. Good Luck and I am sure we can learn from one another - I still consider myself a newbie.
