I realize that there are other threads that are about the same subject but they are rather old at this point.

As everyone knows, the chalice trend is pretty much over. Of course like other species of coral there will be some that stay high in price and in demand. But, from what I have seen in the last 3-4 months its pretty much over....

Just wondering what you guys think will be the next popular species?

even when i first just hovered my mouse over this thread title, to get a little preview of what was typed, i said in my head "australomussa", and swampy, you were reading my mind!! haha, nice. problem is i keep hearing about the limit of how many can get imported a year (600 maybe?) so on one hand it'll def keep raising demand simply by the supply-and-demand rule, but on the other hand, i hope that there won't be a small flood of them like there was the last month or two (if you can even call that a flood!), then nothing for months and months. i adore this species though, and i think it will keep blowin up for sure.

There was a thread about this a month ago. Most folks said aussie acros. I think zoes are making a come back as well as acans.

Why do you think its over for chalices?

For the past couple of month suppliers and divers have been running specials because their supply is much higher than their demand. A year or two ago the demand was MUCH hugher than the supply. At this point the market is flooded with chalice. Also, I have seen so many chalice on forums that are not selling even at crazy low prices. Some of the more well known chalice vendors are now selling off colonies and some of which the colonies are selling for what a single eye sold for 8 - 10 months ago.
We sell wholesale as well as retail. We have over 150 chalice colonies in stock and cant sell them wholesale or retail at rock bottom prices... and I do mean rock bottom!
These are all signs that the chalice trend is over.
Again, like other species there will be some chalice that stay very high in price.

You cant beat the color for the price.... Thats for sure!
I would say Zoas, Acans and Ricordea are by far the coral that have stuck around the longest and have stayed in constant demand.

Strange....I am seeing a completely different trend here in Northern Cal. Chalice for me is on high demand while zoas and acans dropped like ex girl friends with herpes.

im gonna sps is re-gaining it's flavor out here in my neck of the woods..... i have been thinking about selling off my tank besides the aussies and go all aussie!!!!! now that would be sweet..... have my own little gbr.....;)

Yeah I'm gonna have to check out what u have as well. And the chalice trend dying is great news for me. I may be getting into it late, but I love chalices! But zoa and acans are def high on my buy list as well. And u sell on ebay too don't u? I have a reefpets as a saved fav seller on there that I watch all the time

Here is what I see. Prices may be going down and the demand for chalices have gone down but here's the deal. No names will never have a high as demand than the named chalices. If Tyree chalice colonies go down in price, than I would say there was a trend. But that's not happening. Or is it? My main goal is sps mini colonies and chalices. If I could ever find a place that had both for a reasonable offering, than i'ld be all over it. But for bow, I'll continue to buy my sps colonies from them and scurry the net for those high dollar named chalices.

As bad as I'll say, but it is all in the naming and who names it. That goes really for all corals.

I'm waiting for the mini carpet trend to explode, Gary. Seems like it's poised to become the next big deal.

I would say sps and z&p I have been moving mini colonys of garf bonsai, and pink lemonades like crazy all aquaculterd. As well as the space monster polyp is in high demand for me
