My daughter made a homemade apple pie... Which our oven decided it wanted to eat all on its own. It locked and started blowing smoke.
Any other Ideas other then what I did below?

In a panic:
Opened all the windows.
Turned on the whole house fan.
Turned on the central heating and air fans on.
Turned on ever ceiling fan.
Pulled out Box fans and put them at the front door and garage door.
Turned off the tank completely.
Covered the top of the tank.
Thru an air pump outside with 2 air stones. Into the display.
Turned a “powerhead” on

Tank:
I run carbon all ready.
PH went from 8.2 to 8.10
Temp went from 25.1 c to 24.6c
Fish hiding
Polyps still extended
Zoes still open
Clam is totally sucked up in his shell.

I Plan on doing a 10% water change in the morning.

Burnt food particles in the air as smoke is an overreaction.... There is nothing toxic that is airborne in burnt apple pie (at least with every recipe i know of)

Just air out your house brother...

No need to go all Breaking News, call in the National Guard with Hazmat suits on for your Reef Tank.

Your fine. No reason to panic ph dropped because you covered the tank and sounds like lights are out.
Temp dropped because you brought in a whole lot of cooler air. Your tank will be just fine.

Didnt think it was an over reaction .. more of a precaution.. Did I tag it as an emergency? Was looking for advice... thanks for the constructive input.

All you did is probably most you can do. As long as it is not toxic smoke and doesn't alter parameters too much in the long term. I run a wood stove, and sometimes it smokes up the hole house. I do exactly this run a big exhaust fan.

I find if something i think is catastrophic I step back take a deep breath and than react. It helps me to focus and not scramble and make things worse

I hear ya.. I shut it down .. thinking that was the safer bet.. didn't want the protein skimmer sucking it in.. 2 hours later with everything open the house still smells nasty. Thats why we have they forums right? To ask questions and get second opinions.

I listed the parameter swings.. as that is normally the first question others have when someone posts an issue.

Testing parameters in a smokey house? Depending on how tested this could influence results. Maybe not as bad as actual tank water?

Tested with

Milwaukee ph and temp meter .. probes were all ready in the tank before the oven got "hungry"

I realized this after we are in electronic age. (dwr2r) Think though using bicarbonate/carbonate can make ph jump a lot. This doesn't kill stuff. More worry if ph or others stay irregular. Did it do anything to dkh?
