The Non-Photosynthetic Corals Discussion thread

NPS are a passion of mine, I find them so interesting, it’s time we have a discussion thread we’re we all can share pics, discuss filtration methods and food ideas.
Hopefully we can show other members that some of this corals are not as hard to keep as its been tough.

I’ll start, recently I’ve decided that I wanted to have more NPS in my tank, one of the biggest change I’ve done to my set up was removing the sand bed. I believe this will help with feeding, allowing food to be suspended for longer and less trapped in the sand bed. Am allowing aiptasia And xenia to grow in my sump also for filtration purpose. The aiptasia will eat the larger left over particles and the xenia will help with nutrients all along with several macro algae’s and a team of CUC. Am trying to keep the system sockless, The aips will be removed and feed to my nudibranches as they start to over run the sump and if any do escape in to the DT I can always drop a nudi in there to help me with the clean up.

I wish this thread had a few more members posting. I need input!! I got a couple single stems of a gorgonian on 10/2/2020 they were listed as Tequila Sunrise. One person thought they might be Menella gorgonian. Which one doesn't matter to me because they are pretty. Red stem with yellow polyps. I broadcast feed a couple times a week marine snow, reef roids, and every day frozen mysis or marine cuisine They also respond when I stir up the sand bed. I will post a crappy cell phone picture after lights are on. these coral are now in a tank with other low to moderate light corals. Every things seems to be doing well except my duncan. I would like to hear some suggestions on other non-phosynthetic corals. Thanks in advance for any reponses.

I've always wanted (and even tried a few) NP corals in my tank, but have had little success. I think a major reason they are not as popular in the hobby is that the vast majority of reefers run mixed or sps only tanks that seem to be nonconducive to many NP corals species. It seems the most successful NP tanks are exclusively NP coral tanks. Hopefully, my comments can be proven wrong in this discussion thread..
