Well... my attempt of having a Clown Tang in my tang community failed this morning as the Clown basically starved itself to death.

Led me to this post where I would like tang owners to list their own experience with different tangs

Heres mine: (PLEASE ADD TO MY LIST OR COMMENT OF YOUR EXPERIENCE EVEN IF ITS DIFF FROM WHAT I WROTE BELOW)

#1 CATEGORY
EASY GOING COMMUNITY DWELLERS

Yellows & Purples & Scopas, the gold standard in an easy species. The Purples maybe slightly more apt to get sick

Yellow Eye Koles, semi hyper constantly picking at LR but very similar to Yellows

Sailfins, easy once established but seem to be loners with no interaction with other fish. Seems to ignore the community.

#2 CATEGORY
SPECIAL NEEDS UNDERCOVER BOSSES

Blue Hippos, once established in a healthy environment bc they can easily get sick.... the only thing you have to watch for is them being the Boss of the tank bullying others

Powder Blues, just like Hippos they can get sick easily and once full adults they want to be the Boss of the tank. If matched up with another Boss like fish, trainwreck

Powder Browns, just like Powder Blues but seem to be more accepting not being the Boss

Nasos, again a fish wanting to be BOSS

Sohols, whenever I think of Sohols i think of George Thorogoods BAD TO THE BONE song. This fish is so mean I've read its prob best long term for it to be in the tank by itself

#3 CATEGORY
HYPER SPEED RACERS THAT ARE SUPER SENSITIVE, IF SLIGHTLY UNHAPPY THEY DIE

Clowns, if happy and well established they zip around the tank at high energy which requires a lot if food to sustain their hyperness....need 3-4 meals a day

Tomini, almost identical to Clowns in the fact they are high energy and need a lot of food

Achilles, again hyper fish needing a lot of small meals and a lot of swimming room.

All these Cat3 fish are potential problems bc if they aren't happy they fold the tent and either get sick or starve and die.

Black Tang = Big Black Puppy Dog. Fights with no one except when I added a black leopard wrasse pair, there were issues for a couple weeks. Now everything gets along.
