I miss the simplicity of everything back in the 90's. The market wasn't flooded with a crazy amount of supplements and whatnot. People dose this & that and end up killing things because they think they're supposed to add everything.

I had a simple wet dry that I never had to mess with, no skimmer (they were air stones then), never used RODI water (just stress coat), and I had a mix of play sand and crushed coral.

I neglected the heck out of that tank and yet when I tested the water once every few months, it was good..

I think with sooo many things on the market now, it confuses people and they tend to skip the basics and go right to advanced, with undesirable outcomes.

But I'd have to say sps today look way better than the 90's.

There was just something special about this Acropora Bellina

Bought this as soon as it can out of the box into the store, 2 days later

Not a coral though I have lost a couple nice ones, but this was 2 days ago, a little adventurous looking for algae

My lfs here has a chips colony that I've tried 4 times to grow but it dies in around a month

I blasted that with all the flow I could. That pic was in a 75gal with a 6 bulb t5 Current above it. It literally grew out of the water but can't find pics of its largest size.

Here's the last fts I got. I was out of town for 6 weeks helping take care of my grandma and came home to a heck of mess. Did the best I could but it crashed a few months after this pic. I managed to save the clown and a single polyp of Captain America plays. The clownfish will be with me for 14 years this April. The clownfish is full grown in this pic.

Man thats a heartbreaker. I gave up on the chips over decade ago lol. Such a cool acro though. I h ad a few thrive and crash, then it fell off my radar.

I love the idea of solitary acro essentially ruling over a tank like that. I once had a pipe dream of doing that with an efflo, hoping for an eventual 3'x3' or more single efflo in one tank. Just one massive specimen. Needles to say it never came to be.

I'm not even sure if Chip's acro is even still out there. I'd love to have a frag of that. Super shaggy and multi colored! My favorite attributes in an awesome acro!
I got one. [emoji3]

Its massive and I haven't gotten a chance to mount it in the new tank yet so its just been sitting in my frag tank.

Quick cell phone pics of it.

Frags any larger than 1" ship horribly. Believe me, I've tried multiple times. Its like shipping an ice fire... Almost not worth it.

I wish I had a pic of my monti colonies. One was probably 8" high or more and 24" around in layers. I had some encrusting over most my rocks. I lost them all over 4 months from what I think was an alk spike one day that eventually led to bacterial infection. Lost all montis, but not the pls or softies. This was almost 8 years ago now. Wow. I miss the colors.

This is the best pic I can find of fts when had the stag and montis. These things were huge when I lost them.

Really miss these, especially the last two. Probably some of the best looking SPS i've ever had. I think they were some browned out Bali farmed pieces my LFS had. Don't know the names, so if anyone can see what kind of acros they are, please let me know!

My first reef was a 29 gallon hex, what I miss most and I've not seen another one in any of the local stores is the pink (what I believe was a button coral) on the bottom right. The picture does not do it justice as pink as it was, roughly 12 years ago. Ex-gf at the time dumped a gallon of alk solution in the tank because she was mad at me.
