Saw the graph profiles in person and messed with them a little. Super excited to use them! The auto feeder is cool but gonna be a little pricy to start

Well I get text messages daily from my reef angel on my phone without an email server. And auto feeders are nothing but a code same for lighting cycle. Reef angel has more capabilities its just not as pretty. hell I even have a wifi module no ether net cable needed or router. You can code just about anything and if you don't know all you have to do is post the question on the reef angel forum and people send you codes. To easy.

Water level sensing
Pressure sensor ato
Controls jeabo wp pumps like vortechs
I mean you can pretty much control what ever you want all you have to do is code it

I'm not going to debate this Luis. If you are happy with reef angel then great. But in no way is it going to compare to what apex is about to do with their new update to the cloud. User friendly is key, and they are the first to start to try to make this accessible to anyone. No one else out there is taking it to this level. period.

On the user friendly you are right Chris but on the amount of stuff that the reef angel can do or an arduino base controller the apex would never compare plus look at price differences but at the end is just user preference and both controller will accomplish the goal

Arduino guy here.

For your everyday reefing hobbyist the Apex wins hands down. Now I cannot speak of the Reef Angel and its features but the Apex is amazing in what it can do. Having an IT background I can see the benefits of open source anything, HOWEVER, open source brings a niche market, almost fanboy-ish. Once you step into a proprietary market, you enable the masses a uniform platform. Apex has done it right and (not knowing the specifics) has won the market share. I would love to see an open source controller take over. That would mean manufactures turn the curve and start producing their products to be compatible with 2 platforms (ie. iOS vs Droid platform cell phones). This would also drive prices DOWN in the controller market, making it more affordable for all of us to own one, it would also drive prices down in controllable accessories.

Apex Fusion is the next step in remote capabilities. Multiple users inside the dashboard is something I've been wanting to see from them for a while. From the video they are also enabling a nice remote monitoring feature. It sounds like Neptune will email you when you have a power outage and/or internet blip. This is something that has plagued us all. Your Apex will email you if something is off, but not when the unit itself is off. I've been working on trying to provide a solution that would be able to do that. Not saying that Apex Fusion is the golden apple in a bunch of granny smiths, but this is something your everyday hobbyist can rely on to protect their investment. If Apex does this right, they will DOMINATE the controller world. I can already think of 100 questions to ask them about this solution because us IT dudes battle this day in and day out. I would imagine a subscription based service for this, due to the bandwidth requirements alone. I would love to see the new firmware code and how its written. I've uncovered very very few bugs with the Apex system in my experience, you move to open source and every person will experience a different issues due to coding, hardware revisions, etc.

Sorry for the long post and ramblings

Sources: Own an Arduino, setup a bajillion Apex controllers.

In my view Apex already dominates. This release is just another reason to use this system. No challenger is even close.

Apex has been dominating for a few years (I've owned Aquatronica, RKE, and Apex). I think they'd lose a lot of people on a subscription based solution, though. It takes a fair amount of horsepower and bandwidth to process all of that, but it could be done fairly easily on about $30,000 worth of hardware I would think, which isn't a terrible investment. I wonder how many users he's anticipating?

Well until the cloud comes out which I bet you will have to pay. My cheap reef angel does the same and more than the current apex for half the price I have 16 controllable outlets 2 pwm outlets 3 temp outlets pressure sensing ato, ph, and wifi connected no cables or extra equipment needed. Controllable trough my iPhone and the portal online, user friendly forum which people are always adding new codes for example the ability to control the jeabo wp40 like a vortech with all the vortech modes which would not be able to be done on an apex. But like I said it's all preference. Oh and let me not forget that reef angel has the best customer service I experienced in this hobby.

Its definitely preference and needs. Some people are still rocking Aquacontroller IIIs and Aquacontroller Jrs.

I'm personally debating between a Reef Angel and Apex. I'm leaning toward the Apex, but I think the control of the Jebao pumps would be nice and the ability to add code would be both nice and frustrating.
