I have been getting a tank ready for my son and it's been an interesting time. With all the products out their I was wondering what would be your perfect setup. I know in a year it would change with all the new products out. I would like to focus on lights, return pump, skimmer and water flow pumps. Thank you

Perfect for me, means no budget

Radion Gen 3
VorTech MP40
Eheim 1048
Super Reef Octopus SRO-1000INT 5"
And an Apex to control it all

I set one up in April.

6 bulb t5
2x jebao wp25 (would use rw8 now)
Sicce syncra silent 5.0 for return/manifold
Bubble magus curve 5 skimmer
Phosban reactor for carbon and a whole bunch of other stuff

I just set mine up in May.
40B/20L 3 chamber sump

Reef Radiance LumenTek Pro 180 LED's
Gla$$Holes 700gph plumbing kit
Sicce syncra 2.0 return
1x MP10 & 1x WP10
SCA-301 skimmer

I currently have a 40b going, good tank choice..

perfect imo would be:

glass holes or other similar overflow/return with 2 return holes (I only did one, really wish I did two)
one mp10, one mp20
bubble magus curve 5 (have it and love it)
nanoboxreef light (best on the market right now IMO)
anything OTHER than danner mag drive pump for return, I'm on my second one and they've both been noisy
DIY sump and stand preferably a 40B sump, but at least a 20L.. I made my cabinet a hair too short for a 20L and had to use a standard 20..

Why would you go with 2 overflows instead of one?

Let's keep this going.

40B w/ Reef Savvy Ghost overflow
3 Chamber 20L sump

DC9000 return pump

ATI T5/LED fixture

Vortech MP10wES x2

Skimmer Bubble Magus Curve 5

Some of it is in the expensive side but that's the way I like it. LOL.

lol read it wrong. Where would you place them
one at each end of the back pane of the tank with the overflow in the middle..

I currently have the glass holes overflow in the center with one return directly next to it..

nothing wrong with my current setup, I think I would just like the other setup better.

How quiet is your overflow. Is it silent enough to watch tv beside it.

I had a g-holes overflow kit and it was super loud. At first it didn't bother me, but after a while when I would power-down the return pump for maintenance I would really notice how loud it was. I ended up breaking the tank down and doing a coast to coast with narrow internal weir and external bean animal. The glass was cheaper than the G-holes overflow kit and BeanAnimals are silent. C2C w/ BeanAnimal would go on a perfect tank for me.
