So, as it says, I got two clowns recently that wouldn't take to my anemones, and I thought I'd try to put up pictures of an old clown/nem combo to encourage them. Well, one clown died on the 2nd day, and the other on the 4th. This is after having them like 3 months, and not a single other issue in the tank.

I don't think taping a picture to your tank can kill your fish lol, but it is a crazy coincidence lol.
+1, either way it still sucks :(

Unless it ended in concussive brain damage from them kickin the pictures butt. Lol that be the only way IMO.

It shouldn't have caused an issue to healthy fish, but showing 'rival' fish to them would get your clowns 'riled up' getting ready for a big fight. This could be likened to raising blood pressure for a human, if you were placed in a stressful situation, you would get 'amped up'. This reaction is fine for most reasonably healthy people, but if you had serious health problems it would be a much more deleterious situation.

Yeah but both fish lol? If so, then that tank needs to be put on some type of anxiety meds :)

Why not? If one clownfish is dealing with parasites, disease, or suboptimal water quality, than the second clown would likely be dealing with it as well.

I agree. Ive taped pictures of bounce mushrooms to my glass and regular mushrooms now have bubbles. Ive also done this with nems. A rbta turned into CC Supernova.

oh dang.... the CC supernova!! cant wait to get mine after the new year!!

as for the picture killing the clowns, i doubt it was just the pic, but could see them getting distressed from "competition". maybe they even started trying to fight the other clowns, and were going crazy at the glass. Ive honestly never even heard of this using a pic theory.

The title of the post may have been a tad fecitious. I'm not sure I actually blame the pics for the fish dying, but it sure is a strong coincidence. Taping the pictures up is a pretty well known method when you can't get clowns to take to a nem, but its the first time I've needed to try it. The pics I used are of an old pair I had. Both fish were found in the morning time, in the clutches of hermit crabs, and while I'm pretty sure the hermits can't catch them, they did both sleep right on the sand bed in a corner, so I guess it's not out of the question. I don't feel like there are any parasites, or water quality issues, since the other fish, and the tank in general are all doing well. I guess it just wasn't meant to be with those two.
