I have recently taken the security precaution of using a QT. It seemed like a nice opportunity to have another smaller tank to futz with too.
But seeing some of the QT set ups on this forum I am wondering if I’ve made more of just a habitat than QT. It’s bare bottom but
I put a few small pieces of LR in it that I just couldn’t part with when I upgraded recently. These pcs had some nice feather dusters and a stuck on clam that I’ve been watching for several years. I understand that these little creatures may not survive a treatment of medication that may be required so I am wondering if I should just pull it (take to LFS) and put in PVC pipes (as seen on here) for a proper QT.
Thoughts? TIA

From what I've heard you wouldn't need live rock in a qt. If you ever have to qt with copper the feather dusters and the clam would not survive. I have a 29 gallon qt that just has pvc, heater, and sponge filter.

Assuming you are talking primarily about a QT for fish, then yes in most cases LR is not recommended.

That’s what I thought. Probably just need to get a nano to keep my rock or take to LFS. Do either of you keep the QT running at all times or just when you expect fish? Or I was thinking of making it a QT/frag tank to operate all the time. It too is 29 gal with a quality LED lighting so I’d like to utilize it as much as possible.
