Up until May this year, I had a beautiful Regal Angel! She was awesome! Full of life, color & personality... one of my favorite fish. In May I introduced an Achillis Tang to my tank that I bought from another reefer. He had it & several other fish (I bought 4 total) in a tank with no issues. Well evidently I had ick in my tank that my fish had learned to live with. Once he was in the ick blew up and wiped out most of my fish, the regal included. The other 3 fish I bought went in a different tank with no issues, which is why I assume the issue was in my tank.

Anyway, the tank is mostly SPS and I've never had any real issues but my corals always grew very slowly. They were growing, so I figured it was just my tank. Since May, my SPS have exploded. I assume my Regal was nipping or bothering them in some way, I don't know what else would have been the issue. This tank has been up and running for years.

One example: I have had a diabolic pacman frag for about 2.5 years. it's done nothing but slowly encrust the frag plug. In the last 2 months it has started growing all over. I also have a OP that was doing the same thing. It now has 4-5 branches off the frag plug that, by some peoples standards, would be worth fragging and selling... they're about 3/4" in length.

Anyone else have issues with their Regal? I would really love to buy another, but I really like the growth I'm seeing out of my corals!

Highly doubt that Regal was truly reef safe, so you may be onto something. Did you make any other major changes or do some major water changes?

I no longer believe in the reef safe angel, I gave up on that myth once my Genicanthus started nipping at corals and clams after 7+ years in captivity. I think with all of them it's just a matter of time.

Only difference in the tank is that it is now without fish.... I managed to catch them all & throw thin in a Qt & start copper. Lost all but my purple tang and 1 green chromis (lost the regal, achillis, bimac anthias, tomini, & 2 phantom clowns. I figured the tank would suffer with no bioload, but things have been doing great.
