Hello everyone. I am Ian from Drums, PA. I retired from the navy in 2010 after 20 years. On April 1 this year I was diagnosed with cancer and decided that I needed something to stare at other than the TV while I am recovering from chemo.
I set up my first saltwater fish tank little less than a month ago. It hasn't cycled yet of course and just has the regular little damsels in it. My plan right now is to keep it simple and just have a fish only tank. Because of that I think I chose the wrong forum to join seeing as how this is a reef forum, just like the name says. But, assuming everything goes right with my tank and I don't have any problems, I don't know how long just one tank is going to satisfy me. Seeing all the pictures of the beautiful coral and learning how to take care of them I think it's very safe to say that within a year or so I'm going to want a reef tank. So in that respect I think I'm in the right place.
I am really looking forward to reading all the different posts and seeing how to do things correctly. And, pretty much just as important, how to not do things incorrectly.

Welcome. :usa2:

Thank you for your service.

You picked a great hobby, hoping it brings you some comfort.

Looking forward to seeing your eventual tank. :thumb:

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

And I'd also like to thank you for your service, I wish you a speedy recovery. I know having a beautiful reef will help you do so! I'm gonna shoot you a pm and see if I can't help you change your mind about having a reef sooner!

First off thank you for your service in the Navy! My grandfather was in the Navy as well.

Second off, sorry to hear of the cancer diagnosis. I hate cancer, it sucks. However you will beat it

Welcome to Reef2Reef. We are a great community and always willing to help with questions. There is a TON of information in the new to the hobby threads that is great information for fish only or reef systems. If you are considering going to a reef system in the near future, make sure you keep that in mind when purchasing equipment. It will help having to re-purchase things in the future when you convert the tank. Trust me as I didn't think that one through well when I started and bought many things twice ;)
