The right RODI unit?

How do I choose the correct RODI unit? Right now I’m using distilled water, which has been fine so far(0TDS). But I’m confused on how may stages I need. Is it based on my city tap water quality?

I mainly depends on where you live. In GA we seem to have good water, so a 4 or 5 stage will do.

Not really sure, but the Minnesota area and surrounding areas seem to have to deal with a lot of cloramines in the water. So they have either 6 and now 7 stage units to get rid of all that stuff. So I would guess that you may need a 6 or 7 stage unit. I would google your area and check the water quality, and also see if you can find your water treatment area and see what they treat with, but without living up there its hard for me to tell you which unit to buy.

LOL, that's why I wanted to make sure, that area I really have no clue what they use to treat the water. I would check with your water treatment plant, you can usually find it on the net, and then from their you can make a good decision. If they treat the water with just chlorine then a 4 or 5 stage unit should be fine, it they use cloramines to treat the water then a 6 or 7 stage unit would work. If the later is the case then I would probably start with a 6 stage, you can always add a 7th stage down the road if your do thru to much DI resin.

Ok, thank you. Also, we already have a culligan RO filter (3 stage, no DI) could I just add some DI stages to that?

I don't want to say yes and give you bad info, so I will say I am not sure as I want you to have success in reefing.

A 4 stage is usually a safe bet, that’s what I have.
The 4 Stage Aquatic Life one is on sale for like $60 on amazon really good deal.
