What is the correct type of silicone to use in reef tanks?

And what is the incorrect type of silicone to avoid?

I read that the incorrect type will leach nutrients, is that right? What else?

use nothing that promises mold/mildew protection. use only 100% silicone
GE SCS1200; GE Silicone #1 Window and Door
Momentive RTV 108 or 103 which is black
Locktite Clear Silicone for small jobs or tight spaces
these are avail and should be ok.

This is what I use:

Plan on letting it cure several days minimum.

What are you planning to use it for? The most important thing is to make sure you give it plenty of cure time. I always allow at least a week. The whole mildew/mold additive thing is a bit of a red herring. Neutral cure silicones are inherently more mold resistant, but give off ammonia as they cure so they’re lethal if not given enough time. Acetoxy cure silicones give off the typical vinegar smell as they cure. Not quite so lethal but still worth a few extra days for curing. Acetoxy silicones are better for glass. This is my preference ....

So its as simple as avoiding the ones that say mold and mildew resistant, oK!
