Another more recent score would be a chalice colony (approx. 5 inches) for $70. Came in pretty beat up and no color, but it had signs of a nice multicolored rim and pink, red, and blue body with green eyes. Still needs to color up completely, but definitely worth more than $70!

Two stories
First-
There is a store in Columbus Ohio that is just ridiculous. A coral life 220 skimmer is 310$ on sale when you can get it for 150$ on dr foster smith. Yellow tangs are 119$ skunk cleaner shrimp 60$ live rock 14.99$ per pound and it's just circle rocks. That's why i feel no guilt sharing this story;)
I walked in with a 30$ gift card, I went in expecting a brown frag, and saw that one polyp of eagle eye zoa was 29.99$ so I laughed and kept walking. I wandered over to the anemone wall and noticed an amazing "condy". I was so excited to see this marked wrong that I grabbed the closet employe. It was marked for 14.99$ so I was in a state of bliss and accidentally grabbed the manager. Expecting him to point out its a rainbow bubble tip I was expecting to walk away empty handed. Insted he just goes "that's a nice one" and bags it up for me. Defiantly one of my favorite nems. [

Next one isn't a scam, just a friend who owns a lfs helping me out.
Whenever coral is dying he let's me get it for free, in hopes that I can nurse it back to health. Normally it's a bland mushroom or boring zoa. This time it was a 25 head frogspawn that was left in coral dip for 12 hours. This thing was completely closed. After a week it started to look better but now it is a large colony that is one of my favorite pieces.

I picked both Yuma up at lfs. The one on the left was $15 and has popped out 8 more. The one to the right was free.

A guy I used to buy coral from gave me a small encrusted frag that was bleached and had very faint blue looking polyps. He said it was a monti and didn't think it would live, but I could have it if I wanted. I thought it would probably end up dying too, bc at the time my husbandry skills sucked. Anyway, this is what the little frag ended up being months later.

This thread made me laugh last monday I almost got a male lineatus wrasse for 29.99 until the lfs owner realized his weekend employees changed the price to 29.99 from 229.99

No amazing stories here. I have scored a few extremely low priced fish at my local Petco on the dog food runs. I picked up a flame hawk for 19.99 years ago and most recently a lubbock's fairy wrasse for 11.99.
Last summer my 10 year old son won a video game contest and earned me a $100 store credit at my favorite LFS. I paid $20 out of pocket for my favorite Lobo.

Also, FWIW Scott, it was nice to meet you at our Bob Moore frag swap last weekend. Thank you for taking the time to come to Seattle.

I wouldn't call it a steal, but my hubby bought me this lovely anthias pair for $50 each...let's just say we were at the right place at the right time. n.n I'm trying to figure out what's with the male's recent color loss, though. :/ He's losing his pink.

Now this...if it makes it and colors back up to what it originally was...could turn out to be a steal. I found a browned moon brain frag in the $10 section. Now, it was listed on their computer as having come in green and pink, which according to my research is something of a rare color (even if it's actually just green). I saw a green minicolony listed for about $500...so we'll see what happens. It's finally starting to perk up now that I'm dosing vita-chem. So far it has completely refused to eat.

This was the most recent LFS purchase. Paid $60 for it. It is about the size of a softball. 15 or so heads. It looks great under just the blues but it saturates the pics with too much blue. It may not be considered a steal but I think it's a good deal being acans go for $20 a head

Our local LFS was closed because of not paying his rent. I went the day they were selling off everything and I asked the guy how much they were selling the rock for (this was premium live rock...probably about 300lb or so). The guy who was running the sale was the property manager and told me, "you know what...I don't want to mess with getting rid of all this rock, so if you'll take it all you can have it." I loaded up the back of my SUV with all of that rock and never looked back...except when the guy said he was selling the fish for .10 on the $1...then I went back and bought a blue hippo show size for $16. :D

We were buying live rock for $7NZD a kg and one rock there was at least 17 green ricordea yumas on one of the rock which are worth $30 each in New Zealand so that was a steal :)

we bought a big rock of bright yellow zoas for $100 one day and also on the rock was a long tentacle anemone :)

Oh, and my LFS owner kindly donated a package of nutramar ova that had busted in shipping, since he couldn't sell it anyway. He has also given me some livestock for somewhat reduced prices (like for the filefish - it was $25 or so but I had like $18 and he dropped the price for me.) I really appreciate it. :)

Doesn't hurt that I'm a frequent customer.

I was walmart checking out their freshwater fish section (Wall-O-Death) and spotted a gold nugget pleco and flipped out. I went and got a employee who told me it was $3.99 and bagged it up for me. I was absolutely thrilled. I got it home and Quarantined it, after a few weeks he colored up nicely and was thrilled to be in a pleco haven lol.

I loved my gold nugget T.T miss her terribly.

Was buying a blasto colony from a guy who was getting out of the hobby and he said make me an offer on the rest of it. 11 pieces, mostly good size colonies. A few acans and favias, a big meteor shower, some shrooms and a this grey wilsonii. So I went for it. We settled on $200. I was happy with deal just based on the acans and favias. After a few months of Fauna Marin the wilsonii colored up to this. One of my favorites.

I got a warpaint scoly for $50 at an LFS. I would post a pic but a crab tore it up after a feeding one day. It's currently healing in my sump and has regrown 3 mouths and looks like it will be a 3-headed warpaint, just small like 1 inch each head.

I was at a Petco looking around at all of their overpriced, unhealthy livestock and noticed something in thier, "live rock" tank. I ended up getting a rock covered with an entire colony of green and pink yumas for $20!. My best score so far.
