The skimmate chore

Just curious how often do you empty the skimmate in your cup? Do you wait for it to fill up the cup? Do you wait for it to overflow the cup? Are you the type that cleans the cup with nothing in it? I personally hate cleaning my cup. It's like taking the trash out. It just has to be done:cry:

i do mine once a week i also have a collection 1g jug that gets dumped half full every week. neck gets cleaned with a papertowel and the collection cup gets cleaned under toothbrush and in the sink. keep it clean and it performs way better it sucks and stinks but it is the key to a clean happy tank

I dump mine once a week. I try to remember to clean the neck daily with a paper towel wrapped around a small plastic cake spatula.

I clean mine about every three days ..... cup is usually about a third full but the neck is caked with goo and needs to be cleaned. Getting a new skimmer this week and thinking about trying an automatic neck cleaner on it ......

I drain the collection cup every 2-3 days and clean the neck and cup weekly.

I wait till its full. Takes from 3 days to two weeks depending on how I feed and skim. When I empty the cup I sometimes clean the cup and neck but not every time.

Something I need to do. Get a skimmate locker of sorts and connect a hose so I only need to worry about this one a week or 2.

Anyone use an automated neck cleaner?

My way is clean it when it dirty, be it every day or every week. I just use a super skimmer, so no auto clean. Probably would be nice though! I have mine routed to a jug that i feed to my plankton cultures, so draining it is a never.

I empty it every 3 days usually and try to clean the neck at the same time though once a week usually is fine. Paper towel through the neck and a good spray out in the cup usually does the job. l scrub it down every once in a while and don't really notice a performance difference, it just doesn't smell as bad.

It is a weekend chore for me. I take the cup off, clean it and the neck under hot tap water.
