Hi, I have a 75-gallon reef tank that has been up now for two years. It is doing ok but I have this white stringy stuff in filter socks but nowhere else. I just put up a rea sea 750 XXL been up for about two months it has this same stuff but everywhere. The 750 has not even had lights on it yet. My friend has it also. We never had this issue until we started feeding lrs reef frenzy. I love the food and so do my fish. It keeps my nitrates low as I had problems with rods. My 75 has nitrates at about two with phosphate at about .05. It seems more like bacteria it has an orange tint to it and looks snot. Has anyone else experienced this with this food? I just looked threw the 750 and I can see this stuff just everywhere in the water. Time to fire up the 59 watt UV on the 750. Whatever it is it doesn't need light to grow.

Do you carbon dose? White slime can happen when you carbon dose (nopox, vodka, etc.) and your skimmer is not working properly. Also, you should get those nitrates up to at least 5 to avoid dinos.

Sounds bacterial. I even thought about what happens to some people when vodka dosing.
As you said, uv should take care of it.
And maybe a feeding reduction. I dont think i would stop all together though.

I have the reefocto 200 int dc adjustable on a stand and in the water the recommended 7.5 inches. I am running it on the 3rd setting it gets full in about 3 or 4 days on 750xxl. Would you say turn up and wet skim or down and dry skim?

I think a wetter skim is better for carbon dosing

I wish I could film the little clear micro pieces everywhere in the water you look from one end down that tank from one end to the other it is nuts. There are two mp40s my two returns and the return from the UV moving a lot of water, my main pump, and my manifold pump are l2 vectras. I am going to try bio pellets on this 750 see how it goes reactor is already in place just need to put in the pellets plan on half the recommended amount at first. I ran it outside the sump because I have the skimmer the reefocto carbon reactor and a few big bio-bricks in there. You run out of room fast lol. Thanks for the info carbon don't just feed the good guys that is for sure.
