I think CUC is very underrated, snails specifically. I think of each and everyone of my snails as you do your fish. they're all special to me. :)

Have a few to snap pictures of some yet, but here's what I have!

bumblebee - my all time favorite. more expensive but worth it. I have heard they can be predatory towards other snails if there is not enough food. I added
mine after my tank was 5 months old and I have not had any problems with them.

"turbo tinys" >.5" - AKA the cutest things alive. seriously that's how they were named on the wholesale list. great for nanos, and they get the job done!

small turbos ~1" - interested to see how fast these grow.

giant turbo ~ 2.5" -great for the large tanks. they're just so big it's awesome. comparison picture as well.

giant zebra turbo ~2" - best looking large snail.

margarita - cheap and pretty. they do try to tip themselves back over when they fall.

tiger trochus - by far the best cleaning snail. goes everywhere. tips themselves over when they fall. they seem to be nocturnal. more expensive.

cerith - cheap and great for your sand bed. they'll stay hidden during the day and come up the glass at night.

nassarius "zombies" - I love my zombies! another great species for the sand bed, but as soon as food hits the water they'll magically appear! so fun to watch! both of these are larger specimens but they are commonly less than a 1/2 inch.

nerite - the saltwater version. I've had this guy over a year and he's been doing great. he never seems to fall. stays on the glass mostly. they DONT care about being out of the water. THEY WILL climb out of the tank if you're top less.

Love this post. Great pictures too. I'm going to get clean up crew tomorrow.

I've discovered my love of snails because of this hobby! I love watching my snails!

That being said...with your love of snails, what are your thoughts on the vermetid? [emoji38]

that's awesome! same here.

no go for me. theyre just so ugly when they get bigger lol.

milk conch ~ 3.5" - great sand sifters for the larger tanks. they have long eye stalks and a cute trunk. they usually stay in the sandbed and will not climb up and knock over corals. pretty slow moving. more expensive but such a large snail!

I should have been more specific about the turbo snails. there seems to be two common types: the Mexican turbo snail and the Caribbean turbo snail AKA chestnut turbo. Mexicans seem to be collected at a much larger size, the Chestnuts are smaller at .5-1.5", although Live Aquaria says they can get up to 2". The biggest difference I can see other than size is the Mexicans have a smooth shell while the caribbeans have a rough and bumpy shell.

looking for CUC? contact Billy Hay at http://billysreefconnection.com. you can make your own package if need be! MUCH larger sizes than Reef Cleaners. Also, Billy ships CUC in water, not just bags with wet paper towel, resulting in much less DOA.

Babylon nessarius snail/leopard nessarius ~ 2" - a pretty nessarius snail. they are predatory but most reefers have no problem with them. just as the bumblebee snails, I would recommend a established tank. they are great sand bed cleaners.

Astraea snail ~ 1" - a larger specimen than most, these are about the cheapest snails you can get! for a reason - they make no effort to turn themselves over when they fall, and are easily prayed upon. eats multiple species of algae and is a good part of a CUC if you can keep an eye on them.

Awesome. I had no idea what kind my big snails were, but I now know they're Astraea. Good to know! I love watching them. I guess I need to get some nessarius snails. Apparently Astraeas are the only kind I have in my tank. Oopsy daisy.

no biggie, at least you know now! glad to help :D

chestnut mexican turbo - smaller specimen around 5". very bright orange, adds nice coloration to your CUC. they they are more commonly larger, this was the smallest I could find.

threesome!

on the top we have a vermetid snail. usually I snap these guys off because their web-like protrusion usually irritates corals. he has been on this rock for a very long time and is not upsetting any of the nearby corals.

the bottom left is another bumblebee snail.

the bottom right is a smaller baby zebra turbo.

Rosie, I Love that orange FW snail. It reminded me of Dr Dolittle. I was looking for my fighting conch picture when I saw your thread.
