I've got a 60g cube with a 30g sump. The sump was my original tank and was about 4yrs old before I got the cube and turned it into a sump. I've just purchased a Kessil A150W 15k and I'll order a second if its all I hope it to be. Two questions: how important if it all are nighttime actinics and how important is lighting in the sump. I'm wondering if I should use my old halide fixture on the sump or sell it.

Is there a section in your sump for a refugium? if you don't have a refugium with macro algea and what not you don't need lighting down there.

IMO and opinions won't vary much. Night lights are for you and your family and not for the life forms in the tank. I would keep it down to a small one, I like one and use a plug in night light like you put in the bathroom socket. As for the sump, yes, if you light it opposite times of your display tank you can buffer the night time Pf swing and encourage algae to grow there and less so in your display.
