I have never wanted to shoot something so bad in my life. Not even an ex boyfriend

But this tank... This tank does it to me..

So maybe you don't know but my 34 gallon rescue tank and I have not always gotten along. I have gone through many of corals and hours of times to get this thing.... Semi happy and functioning. But apparently I poked the bear.

So recently I had to spend about a week in the hospital. Apparently putting off pneumonia and acting like it's nothing is a bad no no.

My aquarium light was left on for about a week... No dimming or anything just full power death rays shining down on my frowning little Clowns and twitchy little chromises. (If your wondering why simply my parents don't know any better. My responsibility not theirs and more important things were going on)

I come back to the Apocalypse of blankets of algae. It's so thick on my glass that I had to take all my rock out to just scrub at the glass and since the Satan of a previous owner already scratched it to high heaven it stuck in there pretty well. Aanndd ontop of this my beautiful fluffy bubble coral is either dead or dying because my hermits decided to use it as a bouncy castle

So all this right out if the hospital I have to take my whole tank apart.. Fish are all back in and I'm waiting for the water to clear up so I can finish putting the rock back in and pray the gods take mercy on my little corals.

Oh And on top of that my protein skimmer broke and since it's an all in one tank i can't just go out and buy one I have to find the right one that fits...

Moral of this story... I think it's time to look for another tank...

So what did you end up doing and how did you get everything out of the tank as far as the algae?

Mostly all I could do was just scrub. Rocks got scrubbed out, filter media either cleaned out or replaced, water changed. I still feel poopy so not sure how good of a job I really did but we will see.

Sorry for the trouble, glad you're OK!

It could be FAR worse though... you should find my disaster thread(s). LOL!

Algae outbursts are annoying, but generally recoverable. I bet your nitrate and phosphate are lower now :)
If you get a new tank you would get rid of scratches, but if you move anything over you might still have the issues.

Put a refugium (which can just be a simple in tank partition and some side lights) with macro algae.

IMHO it's better to grow nice pretty algae in there than the uglies all over the tank.

I'm so use to having to take this darn tank apart lol plus I'm thinking of getting a new tank and having an actual sump system instead of a all-in-one tank kinda deal

Sadly there's literally no room in my tank for anything. The back of the tank with all the filtration and stuff is is so small I barely have room for a heater. I think im just going to save up for a new tank and do an actual sump system

understand and a larger tank would be nicer also.

you might check out the diy here for algae/chaeto reactors.

I am just setting up a tank with a sump for the first time. I admit I love the ability to put all sorts of gadgets in there.

Oh I'm so jelly! I'll be making a thread here in a bit of a tank I'm mantainting for some people that has a sump and I have to say it's pretty awesome to work with

Also for anyone who is interested here is the set up. Also my bubble coral seems to be hopefully popping back to life. Pray for the bubble
