Alright so I have been in the hobby for about 3 years and have never had an issue with algae. However I set up a new tank this summer and for the first 4 months no algae issues and the last two months have been horrible. Here are my parameters
My Alk 8
Salinity 1.026
Nitrate 0
Mag 1400
Phosphate 0

I have major hair algae and cyano bacteria. I added some phosban in a sock and that has not helped. I also have a SWC skimmer which does its job. For some reason in my refugium no algae will grow. I have red flame algae, calerpa, and chaeto and yet none of them grow. In my refugium the hair and nasty algaes are actually growing on my algae. Also I am getting a little bleaching in my chalices.

If anyone can help that would be awesome and appreciated, I honestly am baffled.

Are you using RODI water for w/c? How much are you changing and how often? Im assuming Ammonia and nitrite are also 0? Hows the flow in the tank?

I have good flow its a 65 gallon tank and have my return a mag 7, an mp10, and a koralia. Ammonia and nitrites are 0. I am using RODI and do 10 gallons every two weeks.

Have u checked the RODI to see if the unit needs a DI or Carbon change? Have you changed salt brands recently?

No change in salt and I just changed both my carbon and phosban a 2 weeks ago. My RODI is 0 as well.

you should try bio pellets alot of people are starting to really like them improves water quality and gets rid of cyano algea i just started running bio pellets to get rid of my cyano algea problem
