The Uglies, and how to approach them?

Recently lost my 2 turbo snails and 9 astrea snails, but not my nassarius snails for some reason. Anyway the uglies erupted with a passion, which is actually my first real algae explosion since starting the tank. Maybe dynos or another bad algae killed them? Not sure why they died honestly. The question is, should I just let the algae go and and let the tank balance out and let the algae die on it's own, or try adding more snails again, which I apparently had no luck with?

I would consider lowering your light - you have no real reason to have it on so bright (at least I don't see any coral). My guess would be that if you added more 'food' to a bare tank - you're going to get more algae. I would 'guess' the pics on the bottom are your refugium - I would add some algae there. In the hopes that they will out-compete the ones up top. To me it looks like hair algae - how old is the tank?

I try to feed 2x a day and keep my skimmer going which is why my nutrients bottomed out. It is my sump and refugium section. You cant see it well, but theres a small ball of chaeto in the top left corner, which has completely failed to grow, no matter what I've tried. Other algaes have no problem, the chaeto from algae barn, a complete dud. There are several algaes in the sump, diatoms, possibly dynos, gha, bubble algae. And then in the DT mostly gha and diatoms. The tank is probably 4 months old with 2 small fish and a ric. mushroom and small toadstool.

I literally just saw my royal gramma attack a nassarius snail... might have found my issue... i didn't think they would even touch a snail

if your chaeto failed to grow your tank is either too new(lacks nutrients) or you are deficient in some trace minerals that chaeto needs to grow.

my 2cents is for you to buy “ChaetoGro” and “Ferrion” from brightwell aquatics. HOWEVER, the tank still looks fairly new and will need a bigger bio load for the chaeto not to starve.
