The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

They’re all looking better now. The wrasse are smaller than what I hoped for. I asked for ~5” and they are 3.5” and 4” I think. Thoughts on whether I should give one to my LFS if they both survive?
@Fishfreak2009 @i cant think this seems a you question
I'd be tempted to try both. Still juveniles, so give it a shot. You can always rehome it later if aggression picks up

If they’re still females then try it and if it goes wrong then you can always split one away :)

It’s chattering. My aussies do that when waiting for a bone or the ball to be thrown. Their jaw or leg will chatter.

My Aussies do the same thing haha. And one of them chatters and then chirps like a low-battery smoke detector on steroids lol. What color are your pups?

Wrasses and Aussies, clearly a sign you enjoy pretty things :D

@OrchidMiss you've got competition! Just wait till my other camera is charged up!

I was very sad to have lost my juvenile (it got scared during tank maintenance and just never came out again) as this is maybe my favorite fish. Very very happy to be able to try again. No aggression so far which is great considering they are some of the smaller wrasse in the tank (I was hoping to get bigger ones) and considering this tank is full of meaner wrasse.

Mine looks like a baby now, in comparison, but Red is pushing 5" and is amazing to watch. Live middle neck clams are fun challenges that keep him and Lemmy entertained

If we're sharing sad news, my daughter sent me this photo on Monday while I was at work...

RIP teeny tiny baby fish, Alice.

Baby? Yours is like an inch bigger than these two. :face-with-tears-of-joy: It’s funny though that my old one was about the same size as these two but while they are full female mine was just starting to transition. Yours is much bigger then these two but still has juvenile markings. Weird.

What kind of wrasse is this beauty?

I'm attributing the growth spurt to being in a 4' tank with some pushy Villains.
If I was in a short tank with Lemmy & Jello, I'd try to get big quick! No wonder he goes to bed at 6pm.

Red coris/Coris gaimard though I kind of want to rename it to the galaxy wrasse.
How big do they get? And what about reef compatibility for corals? They’re stunning. I may NEED one.

I have had mine roughly a year and he's already close to 5" long.
Mine doesn't bother corals at all, unless he can move the frag plug, or rock...
They are strong fish and will upturn frags freely looking for food. You will also lose most of your CUC, snails and crabs are entertaining snackies.

I’ll just add that they max out at about 10” in aquariums though they get bigger in the wild.

I would not mind it eating some of the crabs in the tank! If it ate the gorilla crab I’ve been trying to trap I would be soooo happy.

I'm gonna need a bigger tank....

I have a 210, 6 footer. Should do well in there for a few years and then it can go into my dream tank build in a couple of years.

I'll sell you mine in 6 months.... :(
