I am really hoping that adding a Harlequin in with my redline was not an expensive meal! Haven't seen him for two days. Was that a 50/50 shot or bad choice period?

I love this thread. I also think this is the best place to ask this question. Can a royal pencil wrasse be kept in a reeftank and be successful? I've heard mixed things about them. If they survive the transfer and are eating well they will be ok. My lfs is a stand up establishment he has told me of problems known with these but he's offered to get two and keep them for a month and see how they do. What is everyone's thought please.

Pseudojuloides wrasses can be more sensative than most commonly available wrasses, but if your lfs will hold them for you, then there is no real reason not to. I have found Pseudojuloides to be very peaceful tank inhabitants, never bothering conspecifics or cuc's like other wrasses can.
What i have noticed with them is males have a tendency to lose their coloring and after awhile revert to female coloring.

The genus can be tough as it is, yet for that particular species, long term success stories are virtually non-existent. It's one I'd personally avoid.

Sorry that thing was in the same tank as a monster Midas blenny who wasn't really happy with him so he wouldn't hold still. Is it even a possibility? Didn't look like any other juvenile I had seen online.

I dont know whether its luck or the water in Ct is different from what you are using, But I have found the Pseudojuloides I, and others I know, have tried actually are quite hardy once you get a week or 2 past being shipped. Both species commonly available, cerasinus and severnsi, in my experience are easier to keep than Anampses and Macropharyngodon. Both are extremely peaceful, disease resistant, tolerant of conspecifics and congeners. The only problems I have seen with them is they do not ship well, and they lose their vibrant colors, even when kept with females.
If there is a store that will keep them for a month that eliminates one of the 2 causes for concern.

Maybe, but I don't think so based on those photos (better ones are needed). If I can ask, what did you pay? It certainly looks more C. rubripinnis like right now. If the price tag was under $60, jordani is even more unlikely.Got another one for ya! Sorry for all the horrible pics

Perhaps, but it's actually nice to hear some success stories. I've heard of very few but many, many failures.

I did not end up buying it. It was at a lfs. He said it was the same as the large male that he had in a 400g there. It didn't look anything like a flame to me either and had no yellow at all. He was flashing at his reflection constantly lol. He was similar to that pic but had blight blue streaks in his upper dorsal and lower fins. That what made me question if it was a flame. He wanted 60 for it and I saw the order form he was checking to see if they had any on the next order.

OK quick wrasse question...had a female Solon wrasse..ordered a male...they sent another female...had them together for about 5 months..now got a male...and he is getting picked on by the bigger female..any tips?

Yeah Brett is still open. He is in the process of moving right now and should be back up and running after the first of the year. High quality stuff for sure and great prices. You can find him on facebook as well.
