Well the black leopard came out when the lights came on today, and soon chased back into the sandbed by my red corris.

No nipping, just chasing. I'm hoping they work it out eventually. By all means they should get along, as the red does not bother my melagris at all.

They should calm down eventually, they’re probably just forming a bit more of the wrasse hierarchy.

What is everybody's experience with iridis and earmuff wrasses? I know the iridis is a notoriously difficult shipper. I currently have a black leopard, ornate leopard, and a solon in a 6x2ft

I have both an iridis and an earmuff. Both will be fine in a tank of your size and will get along with your current wrasses.

Hello all,
I have a mature 125 gallon tank that I am thinking about adding some wrasses to. I know there is a lot to know as far as what wrasses are compatible so i was wondering if anyone has some advice. My current occupants are:
Purple tang
One spot foxface
Copperband butterfly
Oscellaris pair
Royal Gramma
Mandarin dragonette
Going to be adding a diamond goby and thinking about a midas blenny.

I don't have any red in the tank and i don't have a ton of room to add more big fish so i was thinking about getting some warm colors and movement by adding maybe a few flasher wrasses? Any thoughts on what might work well?

I wouldn’t do it personally. That tang is known for aggressive behaviour and isn’t the most friendly when it comes to new fish. Wrasses don’t usually cope well with too much stress (When established they do make the hierarchy but they become “aggressive” to eachother so that’s different in a way).

I have no problem arranging a container of sand for him. I am more interested in which wrasse is more suitable for me and how they will get along with my shrimp and fish.

You have a bare bottom? If so I would skip sand sleepers because a container of sand will be all over your tank. Some do it but not sure how they keep it contained.
That said fairy and flasher wrasse are good choices. How big is your tank?

If possible, you can remove the tang and move around a bit of rockwork (Just the tangs territorial cave) and then you can add the wrasse whilst the tang is preoccupied then in the next few hours-day add the tang back once the wrasse is under cover wether that’s the sand or rockwork.

I have some very territorial tangs and have had a super aggressive purple tang in the past....none of which even looked at my wrasses (12 of them at present) when introduced. If you have a tang that's aggressive with wrasses you are very unlucky. Angels, butterflies, tangs and other similarly shaped fish yes. Fish shaped like wrasses are generally ignored by tangs.

I agree. My tangs never bother wrasse except if they are hunting in the tangs spot and even then the wrasse don’t care and the tangs let it go. My powder blue would chase wrasse before lights out but it wasn’t aggression
That said I think it was saltyt that told me she didn’t have luck with tangs and wrasse.

I think it’s rare for tangs to be a problem. Sounds like you have away to move fish around and or catch if needed. If that’s the case I would definitely try

I would love to hear 2-3 suggestions from these families of beautifully coloured wrasse

Lineatus are beautiful. Other fairies that I value highly C. jordani (good luck finding one of these with the Hawaii ban), C. aurantidorsalis, C. isoscoles, C. earlei (spending your money here), C. shutmani, C. laboutei. Flashers...P. anglatus, P. flavidorsalis, P. lineopunctatus are all beautiful (in addition to the diamond tail you already mentioned). Leopards....I love M. geoffroyi.

Well I will say money is not an option but it always is haha. Put it this way I am comfortable with spending between $20 -$400 on a fish right now . Maybe moving into higher price range once I am more comfortable in my QT / transporting game . I am still not batting close to 90% on keeping fish alive .

I will add when it comes to leopards being fragile buying from a place that qt’s or gets them eating and holds them a month or two is worth it.

Agree with @Crabby48, the difficulty with leopards is getting them to eat. I was very fortunate to get one that ate frozen food easily and quickly. Once you get past that hurdle they are as hardy as any other wrasse IMO. Live black worms or frozen blood worms (the later is what got mine eating) are great to get them eating.

I’ve had it the opposite way around, I often find that it’s lucky if you get a non-Ctenochaetus that isn’t aggressive to wrasses. If you have an Acanthurus that’s not aggressive to wrasses or similarly shaped fish (Tilefish being a big one) then that’s just luck. I don’t think I’d ever try a femininus or most Anampses with a different tang (Mine just looks at the fish in my tank and leaves it alone, no matter the species of fish or body shape). I think the more aggressive Halichoeres would be alright around an established tang or an aggressive Cirrhilabrus/paracheilinus.

anyone here had experience with the peliciers wrasse from the Mauritius? I had one that jumped through the mesh, almost quit the hobby after the incident.
