The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

My Chloropterus is starting to be a pain with sleeping, sometimes he’s up way before the lights are even on (5-6am), then other times he isn’t up until about 2-3pm and sometimes he’ll just not wake up for about 2-3 days in a row.

Apparently if I didn't have to work I'd become a Wrasse.

Hello guys, so apparently I’ve developed a wrasse addiction I wasn’t aware of. This is my current list of what I am thinking. I was trying to stay on the peaceful side of things any input would help.

Carpenter flasher
Solon wrasse
Yellow coris wrasse
Lubbocks fairy

Leopard wrasse bipartisus
Pintail Fairy

I thought the Solon was peaceful and reading through the post seems it may be a hit or miss. I was thinking of replacing it with a hooded flame wrasse. Thanks!

Welcome to the addiction! I agree, replace the solon with a hooded and you'll have a nice mix that should all get along.

Get rid of the Solon and if your tank is 4’ either lubbocki variant should be alright. However if your tank is smaller than 4’ I would stick to the Indonesian variant.

The addiction is real lol. I think it be better to skip the Solon for another wrasse. Your hooded flame wrasse would be a nice replacement but many Cirrhilabrus wrasse fall under ‘hooded flame’ so make sure you do your research on which one you want. The Pintail fairy is a good addition but because it’s one of the more docile and sensitive I’d add it firstl or at least in the beginning of the wrasse additions so as to make sure the Pintail has a territory established and feels comfortable. How big is your tank? If it’s a 4 footer you can add other wrasse species if you like.

I appreciate the input! At first I thought oh a carpenter will do, then down the rabbit hole I went. Ok my suspicions on the Solon were correct. Yes it’s an IM 100ext. My tank is stocked with just a pair of clowns and yellow watchman.

You can definitely get more wrasse.

Really wanting a Pink streak tbh
Well…. If you add one before all your other fish go in you should be perfectly fine. Just remember you may not see him constantly for the first few months (Mine are 6 months on and still are rather shy but mine were abnormally small juveniles).
Here’s an article I wrote on this species (I will likely edit it and update it soon so some information may be added but it is generally all the same)

Get a pair or a trio and add them as one of the first fish. This will get the best character out of them, and see them more often. Like stated above this fish is very cryptic, so you probably won’t see them at all for the first few days and weeks, and then sporadically as the months go by. So don’t be worrying if you don’t see them often.

If I get a pair will I have to worry about them picking each other off or are they just that docile they’ll be ok.

I had a Solon and it turned into a bully. Keep an eye on that one

They are one of the most docile wrasse and unlike chromis having a small group of them benefits the fish.
