The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

1 side down, now to do the other side and the base then I’m almost done.

I forgot how hard it is to chop through egg crate. The things we do for wrasses hey.

All you need is to know where the cut is going to be, and a heavy sturdy knife or a needle nose pliers. I find it really easy to work with. I love to get me some black egg crate but cannot get any locally. MO is too expensive, so I use the white ones from hardware stores.

It is hard for me to find any of the Tamarin Wrasse here in Corpus Christi. I have been successful with the Yellow breasted and China Tamarin. I think the next time I see a Yellow tail or Red tail Tamarin I will buy her.
We should have species thread on these hard to keep wrasses. Similar to the Primer series back at Reefcentral. I find these threads extremely helpful, when I try to research on a species.

Absolutely, I think ideally we should have a care sheet for a lot of the commonly kept yet somewhat difficult species we own instead of warding people away. I mean, why ward someone away if you know it can be done and have either seen or even don’t it before?

Absolutely, I think ideally we should have a care sheet for a lot of the commonly kept yet somewhat difficult species we own instead of warding people away. I mean, why ward someone away if you know it can be done and have either seen or even don’t it before?

That would be incredible! Maybe formatted similar to Evolved’s “All About Reef Safe Wrasses in Aquaria” article?

I’ve found the info here to be indispensable but fragmented. The search function here is clunky, with doing a search via Google being more fruitful.

Well, plan A was throw a net in but seems like hawks aren’t as dumb as my tilefish and wrasses are. Plan B is to try out the CB Angel in there and see if he’s the issue.

Turns out, I made it a tiny bit bigger than intended, but I guess when I introduce wrasses (I will likely add a radiant and maybe another fairy/flasher once the trouble maker is out) it’s useful for swimroom. It’s just a tad big in proportion to a 4’ tank;

He came out after the hawk went into hiding and instantly went into displaying colours! I’ve never seen him go orange and properly go into the colours but instead seen him flare his fins. I also finally saw the Carpenteri and Aquamarinus in display with eachother after scaring off the Hawk into hiding. Unfortunately I didn’t get photos of those two though.

Well, isn’t this beautiful, he’s been flaring up and properly displaying with a few of the fish - most notable the Clown, Cleaner Wrasse and Carpenteri. With a bit of the Aquamarinus also causing displaying behaviours.

You/we should try to get some of the Mod on board and get this going. I contribute to some of these species' primer include pictures and what I did. I think there are no one right way to take care of these fishes and given experiences of successful reefers will help others care for them. I would love to read a primer for Red-tail and Yellow-tail Tamarin wrasses, along with knowing who keep them successfully.

Definitely, I’d love to see a primer on some of the Corallivorous butterflies that have been kept by others and some of the pencil/tamarin/leopard wrasses (specifically Atavai, Neoguinaicus and Choati as although I know the basics for them it would be interesting to see a slightly deeper way of caring for them).

They are beautiful fish.

+1 for an "Everything about copperbands and more" article. Loves this animals. Could also use one for cleaner wrasses and maybe regal angels.

I'm gonna be honest, this is really all I had been looking for when I google a fish and I don't have enough experience to write my own.

They don’t ship. I also get difrent prices as they order what I want and I take in bag when fish come in.
Reefco, tsm are two I use. Tsm will ship but sell qt’ed fish so they do have higher prices. The third I use I can’t give out but will say he has a wrasse group on fb for you like you said shipping will cost to much
