Thank you was looking at them on DD yesterday, could tell 100% they are the Same thank you again for more education. And another to be add to my wish list.

They looked dull when I first saw them in person but the pair that my LFS has truly turned my opinion round on them.
Hopefully I find out if a female is possible soon.

Also this little tiny brunneus wrasse is the hardest to grab a picture of. Hes half the size of almost eveyone else.

Im almost sure pairing doesn't work long term. As in aquarium settings they "always" will transition to male.
In a natural setting its a dominance/submissive heirarchial order.

Yeah. As said it’s best not to pair wrasses. Get two different species of flasher instead!

I have melanarus wrasses in two tanks, and the one in the 20 gallon that I got to deal with bristle worms didn't make a dent in the worms, and if now harassing the smaller fish in the tank ( a pair of mocha clowns, two PJ cardinals ans a bicolor dottyback) The larger wrasse is in a 90 gallon tank with a pair of Clarkeii clowns, a large desjadini tang, a sizable yellow tang, an equally sizable blue hippo tang, a coral beauty, a tiny 6-line wrasse, a lawn mower blenny and a small blue chromis. I have a 32 gallon tank with a pair of gladiator clowns, a blue hippo tang, who is outgroing the tank, a huma huma trigger that is also probably outgrowing the tank and a orchid dotty back. Where is the best place to move the melanarus wrasse from the 20 gallon?

Probably to the lfs along with the six line. IMO both of those will limit any future fairy or flashers especially in the 32. Two mels in the 90 would fight.

What wrasse to accompany my male leopard?

I have a male leopard wrasse, blue side wrasse, coral beauty, lemon peel angel, small Kole eye, pair of small clowns, flame hawk, and diamond goby. I wanted to finish tank with a female leopard but now considering a Naoko instead. Thoughts? 75 gallon , 4+year established tank, ideal parameters

I see no issues with the fish you have. Does your tank have a 1-2 inch sand bed? What wrasses/colors are you interested in?

There are places were the sand thins out but in most places yes.

I am looking for some color pops honestly so I’m not attached to anything yet. I do love leopards but last one I had killed itself by diving into something it shouldn’t have.

I suggest Halichoeres and fairy wrasse as they would best deal with the tangs without being too aggressive themselves.

H rubricephalus

Fairies:
Pink margined, rubrimarginatus
Pink banded, roseafascia
Magma, shutmani
Hooded flame, efatensis
Earl’s, earlei
Nahackyi

With the tangs, you’re wanting to add Cirrhilabrus species that are slightly higher on the aggression scale. First try out one of these guys;
Cirrhilabrus finifenmaa
Cirrhilabrus roseafascia
Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis
Cirrhilabrus lubbocki
Cirrhilarus rubrimarginatus
Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis
Cirrhilabrus pylei

And you’ll also want more boisterous species from the sand sleeping genera, species like;
Halichoeres melasmapomus
Halichoeres rubricephalus
Halichoeres iridis
Halichoeres marginatus
Halichoeres leucoxanthus
Halichoeres biocellatus
Halichoeres chrysus

Macropharyngodon meleagris
Macropharyngodon bipartitus

Anampses neoguinaicus
Anampses meleagrides

The last two genera (Anampses and Macropharyngodon) are best attempted once you get a feel for wrasses and their behaviours. However, those 4 species should be able to hold themselves if you get slightly larger females. Most female wrasses hold themselves better than males do so try get any more sensitive species as females instead of a bunch of males - I know males are gorgeous but if possible, get females or very young males.
