The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

They grow incredibly fast as juveniles/females/young males but once somewhat mature they tend to slow in growth IME. But even then, their slowed growth can be insane - my male radiant had some insane growth even when he was 3 inches - He got to around 4.5 inches.
If they aren’t the dominant fish in the tank, does that slow growth a bit or not at all?

Reason I ask is I just brought home a beautiful Tang yesterday and the Mel is no longer the biggest in the tank. I will note, both are still juveniles in age/size for their species.

I know he’s not a wrasse so won’t put his pic up in this Holy wrasse thread, but check him out if you’re interested. There is a pic of both the wrasse and Tang together for size comparison:

New additions in QT Tank #4!

My new 2” Meleagris Leopard Wrasse showing how to eat frozen LRS to the 2.5” Yellow Tail Tamarin I finally got on Thursday, along with 3 Zebra Dartfish acting as dither fish which got the Leopard eating.

Been waiting over 4 months for my trusted LFS to get a healthy specimen in, and I couldn’t be happier.

Unfortunately, like every wrasse, my 3yo son immediately staked claim on it as “his wrasse!!”

Na that’s a fair price. Other times few come in and people like reef pro way over jack prices.

Interesting. I haven’t looked at them in years, back when prices were sky high. I just went and found an old RP post about them and they had them for like $1,100 lol

My least dominant wrasse was my fastest grower both times.

I have a 75gallon display and one of my current fish is a Solar Wrasse. As far as compatibility goes, yes or no on the following:

Pintail
Naoko
Carpenter’s
Vrolik's
Melanurus

Though these 2 seem on the large side, Live Aquaria says ok in 70g, thoughts on these as well?
Grey Head
Richmond’s

Nothing particularly grabbed me today unfortunately. A centropyge, a regal, and a juvenile queen tempted me as well as a male mccoskers and a lubbocki.
What angels are you thinking about?
Well I need another regal as that was definitely one of my favorites and my worst loss to the velvet but I think I'm going to get a biota as I don't trust anywhere else. My LFS had a big one and it was healthy but thats a fish I don't want to risk. I like the extreme color of a flame but also the subtle beauty of a centropyge. Too bad most of the large are either too large or get ugly.

For wrasse I want a filamented flasher, common leopard (meleagris), or a china (A neoguinaicus)

Haven’t seen a DT stateside in probably over 2 years.

Was really surprised to see this little dude. Maybe 1.5”, looked like it was transitioning.

Decided to spend all my good boy points on this guy though, so no wrasse (my favorite dish place finally got one in for me):

I wouldn't mix the last two. Pick one.

Same as above. You want variety in your wrasse to avoid fighting. Consider a yellow, radiant, timor, earmuff etc. Those last 4 are too similiar

Rainbow basslet. Really pleased with the color he has for his size
Oooooo. I like that!

So long everyone, I'm off to become a basslet lover now!

Blackcap, rainbow, golden cuban and candy basslet on the way! Royal gramma also for good measure. I sold one of my children though so roughly breaking even!
