The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Yep
Thought it would be hard since you don’t see this genus very often

With this one I’m not 100% on the exact species but genus is fairly easy

I thought this one wasn’t that hard because it’s a fairly common species of that genus
2 looks like a Caudimacula or Dorsimacula.

Hemigymnus melapterus?

P.s. says Thick Lip Wrasse on the glass :)

I can’t see the video, if you upload it to Streamable or YT it’ll work better. Or you could post some pictures instead.

Maybe oversimplifying, but a “terminal male” a wrasse that has transitioned from female to male and can no longer go back and will forever be a male.

In nature there are sometimes sub males that can stay sub males for a while or even revert back to female. And “super males” are basically the alphas of all of the terminal males, biggest, most colorful, etc.

Gotcha. Heres the youtube.

My LFS has one of them… I’ve yet to get it as I can’t figure out if I like them or not.

I’d like to see more photos of them, because same as you, I’m undecided but kinda want one. Do they really only grow to 3 inches?!

This picture looks pretty cool though

The first is a juvenile Cheilinus lunulatus! One of my favorite fish! Wish I hadn't lost mine. Replaced it with a Cheilinus fasciatus, waiting for it to grow big and strong. I may try another lunulatus if I can find a juvenile at the right price, grow the 2 out together and see how it goes.

Second fish is Coris caudimacula? Pretty sure on this, but colors aren't the greatest? Transitional phase fish?

Third fish is Hemigymnus melapterus.

Out of curiosity, how much are they asking for the broomtail? Can't seem to ever find them locally, and if they are, it's a 10"+ adult for exorbitant prices

Sorry I didn’t even glance at the price. My store rarely sells anything for then 200$

Bought this as a female chaliasi, but leaning more and more towards a female Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura. What say yall? Sorry for the poor quality pics, got a bit of a bacterial bloom ever since having the display in hypo. Raising it back out now and hooking up my UV when I get home from the hospital with the baby this weekend (don't want to change anything before we leave for induction on Friday).

I would say it’s definitely in that complex of cyanopleura but without a clearer photo it’s going to be a guessing game on exact species.
