The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse : do they burrow in sand? I'm looking for a non-burrowing wrasse for my reef tank that wont cover my chalices in sand.

Nope. All Flasher Wrasses sleep in the rockwork in a mucous cocoon. As long as your tank is 100% covered (ideally with netting for when it does jump and hit the top!) you should be good to add one!

Not really rare but I just added a red head Solon..

Timor wrasse. I love the colors. he is rainbow like when the lights go down.
A very young male; mature males look quite different.
I have a pair; there's pics of male/female around here somewhere...

Wrasse opinion

It's wonderful to read of your vast knowledge regarding wrasses. I don't have a wrasse, but am interested in your expertise and opinion on what wrasses make great reef pets. I am also interested in colorful wrasses that maintain their color and don't become too large as adults. I have a 120 gal reef tank with a 40g sump, lightly stocked. Would you mind offering some suggestions?

Thanks for the kind words. :)
Here is my write-up and a good place for you to start with those questions in mind: All About Reef Safe Wrasses - 3reef Reef Aquarium Forum
Your tank size allows for just about any reef-safe wrasse. What appeals to you in terms of coloration will be your personal preference and hence is a question best left answered by you. :)

I love wrasses! I blame it on Tony Vargas. Also my wife for egging me on to buy whatever Tony listed on his speech.

Lots of wrasses in our tanks! Our newest additions are a dragon wrasse! Who came in and took over the tank.. LOL.. he is fun to watch swim still young but changing. And we just got another baby yellow coris wrasse! We have an adult in another tank and we love his personality so we couldn't pass up another one for another tank! And many others like a red coris wrasse that is in the process of maturing... a fairy, blue headed, and a flasher. We have a few others in mind just waiting on adding them.

I'm looking to add some nice wrasse to my 120g. If you had a wrasseless 120g and wanted to add mostly wrasse which ones would you go with?
