The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Beautiful, I love when you can see the lines in their fins like that

https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/me...n-up-yet-i-know-im-stupid-laugh-out-loud.html ... Long story short, yes. It's going to be a LPS/polyp/softy dominate tank. I might get some SPS later down the road when everything is growing great and after I upgrade my light. Everything is growing so far. I just fed my carpet half a silverside today and he is huge and happy. Fish are healthy and happy. I think my Damsels are going to breed. They've been dancing around together and pooping in and out of this hole in the rock. The hole leads to a cave small enough for them to hide together. I haven't had any anlagen blooms, other than diatoms a few weeks back(new tank syndrome). There are pics on the link and I can always take more. There is plenty of space and sand behind the rock work. It's more of an island style scape. The five big rocks that make the base are link together with caves and tunnels(all natural). My favorite thing is to sit back and watch the fish play and weave through the rocks. I recently add some gorgonians that are doing well. If there's anything else you'd like to know, just ask. I want fish that differ in color and patterns so I can wow myself every time I look at my tank. I loved the look of the Kruiter's, but he can wait until the end. I also drip acclimate over a few hours and QT for weeks before adding. I want them to be disease free and eating my food well before they go into the tank. I like my fish to be happy and healthy before they are added to my DT. Also, I love my CUC almost as much as my fish. I want my wrasse to be compatible. I have tons or pods and a huge fuge that breed pods like crazy. Don't mind if they go after them. I have so many pods that they are all over my DT glass and stuff. You can take a light at night and shine them. You can also look though out the rocks and see tons of amphipods roaming about.

Thank you eatbreakfast and aquaph8. I won't add the mystery. I like the ability to add other fish. I'll plan the Kruiter's for the end and I'll try to pick up one that has been acclimated well. Are there any good wrasse sites you can recommend for great pics and info. I use liveaquaria a lot, but their reef safe selection is limited.

I have a 60g cube and currently have a lubbocks wrasse. Looking to add one or maybe two more wrasses and looking for input as to what will play nice. I'd love to have either a flame pair or a leopard wrasse.

Ideas?

Tank inhabitants:
-2 small chromis
-2 snowflake clowns
- tiny yellow tang- no tang police please!
-1 small lubbocks wrasse

Live aquaria is as good as any bit Bluezoo has a pretty nice selection too.

I think the flame pair would work OK. Just be sure to use an acclimation box to get them used to the lubbocks

Almost forgot to post these...

This is the larger of our two male Rhomboids. I got lucky with these two shots as the "Rhomboid Rocket" is very difficult to photograph.

This is the smaller of our two female bipartitus leopards.

Ok. So far I have found the Pink-Streaked Wrasse (Pseudocheilinops ataenia), Linespot Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus lineopunctatus), Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus)(pair), Clown Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus solorensis), Royal Pencil Wrasse (Pseudojuloides severnsi) or Sea Grass Wrasse (Novaculichthys macrolepidotus) or Green Wrasse (Halichoeres chloropterus), Exquisite Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus exquisitus)(pair), Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis), Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri). This is to give you an idea of all the styles and ones I like. I love pairs and they often swim together. I would love to have differing colors, looks, and patterns. Someone said I should think about getting rid of my Yellow Tail Blue Damsels. They are a pair. Do you think they will harass or possibly kill the wrasses? If so, they will go.

Any wrasse is going to be a problem with a carpet nem in the tank; it WILL eventually be expensive anemone food.

I personally would NOT put a leopard in a 60 cube; I don't feel it offers enough room nor enough substrate for a sufficient pod population.
I agree the flames should probably be okay, but it is a bit on the smaller side for them as well.

So I have two female leopard wrasse in a 120 would adding a male cause problems?

Looks like my "female" P. bellae may be transitioning. Notice the lines across the body & the dorsal filaments developing:

My male doesn't seem to care either way. I was hoping she would stay female, but knew there was a good chance it wouldn't.

This is a not so great pic of them both a few weeks ago for comparison:

Definitely transitioning. The Bell's are my favorite flashers. My last one was with me for almost 4 years.

Ingtar_shinowa, that's good to know. I like the little guys. They like to venture around and play with each other. ... Evolved, are there any other nems that I can keeps for my clowns to host. They haven't hosted this one since the move from the 90 to the 120. I was think and hadoni, sebae, or bubble tip. And ideas as to which would be the safest bet. I love have the nem/clown relationship. .... Any suggestions from the listed wrasses above. This is all research. I probably won't buy for another few months. Thank you to everyone for your help so far. I'm learning a lot.

Bubble tip is a good choice, carpets are pretty well known for eating fish.
