I knew about the sand burrowing ones. I researched which ones are safe for reefs and generally peaceful- and with a lot of opinions by people here, I came up with a small list of wrasses that we felt were good for my tank. I'll probably stick with these two in my tank for a while at least. They will be in QT for a month or so until I feel comfortable with putting them in my main tank.

I just had no idea they made cocoons. A lot of places I read up on did not mention that, it was a surprise to me.
Is there a list of "Sand burrowing" Wrasses, and "Cocoon spinning" Wrasses so I know which is which? many care sheets don't specify.

aww, poor six! I had one for about 2 years in my 28 gal with my clowns (That I had for nearly 4 years). He and the clowns fought for the first time in 2 years and the clowns won

thank you! My bookmarks is getting full as well, lol. Off to read.

I forgot to mention in my previous post, my LFS was very helpful. I showed them a list of wrasses, and they explained each one to me, their personalities and which fish to avoid with them. They helped me make the choices. They showed me the cheaper ones, which I felt was great because I felt they weren't looking for a big sale, they really did care about the fish. They don't even believe in using nets to catch them, they have small colanders or used their hands to sway them into the transport carrier.

They did tell me they medicate all the fish with copper. I know wrasses are sensitive to copper.. I just hope I won't have to use it on them. They keep the fish in the back for a week or so to observe before moving to the sale tanks on the main floor.

I only require this link for the "sleep" list at the bottom now, as I'm not up to speed on all the scientific names of wrasses yet.

what does the asterisk mean at the end of the wrasse names at the bottom of the list? I don't see a footnote about it

The species with the asterisk sometimes bury too.

That's a male exquisite wrasse, C. exquisitus, African variant.

I've got a female Macropharyngodon cyanoguttatus wrasse and was wondering if I could also add a Macropharyngodon bipartitus wrasse? I have a 64" x 30" x 24" display tank and sump.

Should be fine; in general Macropharyngodon species are compatible provided they are all females.

Agreed with evolved. If they are both females they should coexist fine. Though I stil recommend using a social acclimation box for introduction.

What you guys think about this isosceles? Does it have potential to become a show quality one? It is about 2.5" to 3". It was at sitting in an isolated tank away from the other new arrivals at the LFS for about week now. It was healthy and bold and eating right after adding into DT.

Most have the potential to be stunning as terminal phase males. Yours is already there. With good diet and conditions it's colors will get more vibrant.
