idk what your options are, but solorensis gets pretty big. is the tank 4' long? i believe the orangeback stays a decent bit smaller than a solon. the concern with undersizing the tank and wrasses is they're liable to display and go crashing into the glass/rocks and injure themselves.

speaking of which hopefully you have a top as wrasses love to jump

Yes, my tank has already a mesh to protect them to jump. I've been preparing the system and getting the rest, like food and such, for them.
Yes, my tank is 48" long and I would prefer a smaller species, so will follow your advice to get the orange back then.
I saw this video ( I think it's in french and I don't understand anything he says) and wonder if I could keep 2 H. chrysus in the long run with the orangeback:

Also... I will use some of the techniques in this video to improve my quarantine schedule for the wrasses. Let me know if anyone here has any suggestions or corrections to this video.

i think people successfully keep chrysus in groups, but idk.. i wouldn't just knowing how wrasses work.

you might be able to do chrysus plus their sister species the silver bellied one, but don't hold me to that. @evolved what say you on chrysus + leucoxanthus

I just got a red fairy wrasse from whitecorals.com which is usually an excellent retailer but they made a big mistake and put the fish in a tiny bag.

Last time I got a fish from them it was in an oversized bag and comfortable, this wrasse was in a tiny bag that barely fit it and curled up. I should have taken a photo for proof but was panicking a bit so once I temp acclimated i put it in right away to get it out of that stress.

It's still alive but hiding and hasn't moved much or eaten. Pretty worried.

Groups of chrysus can work in BIG tanks - in a 75, not so much... And especially not a pair.

I wouldn't. Sure, it removes some risk being different species, but I still wouldn't.

You know how this works!

You have to be on your phone in that meeting refreshing right at 5CDT - otherwise you're always too late.

I consoled myself in that it was a large one and I was thinking a younger one might do better. Updated my email alert....will try to be more diligent next time.

A question for all of you Wrasse lovers...

I have a female Lineatus and I have noticed that it's colours seem to be getting stronger and it's markings a bit more defined.

I'll have a closer look at some point but what would be the first signs that a female is going to transition to male?

Probably wishful thinking...
