I finally broke down and added a nem for my clowns. It was a bubble tip from Petco, and at a killer price. They had quite a few red ones but one stuck out to me. It was a little retracted but I could tell it had a nice yellow color on the tips with blueish tentacles.

'Is that a BTA?' I ask? I was told 'yes, it is, that's all we have in the tank with the corals'. So I took it.

It's in my tank. It's healthy and it's not a BTA. Better yet it appears to be a fish eater and it relocated to the back of my tank wedged WAAAAAY inside the aquascape where I can't reach it.

I am the lord of bad decisions. Don't judge me for trusting the word of one of Petco's marine experts. Feel free to read lots of sarcasm into that sentence.

Give it a day or two to see if the nem moves. They tend to move around a bit until it get settled

I will say that many years ago I had a long tentacle anemone. It was a similar situation. Got it for a cheap price when I didn't know better. The sucker ate basically every fish in my then over stocked tank. Got huge. What a mess.

I can hardly see it, let alone get a pic. The tentacles seem to be about 3" long, thin(ish) , blue tips on yellow tentacles and sort of a colorless base. Again, i can't see much of it.
It could be a BTA , hard to say without pic. Although petco has sold me “condys” that were BTA so it wouldn’t surprise me

I did have a fish disappear on me. I blamed it on the nem.

I hope you're right. FWIW, the clowns are avoiding it.

I'm a little confused here.

Petco not Knowing what's in their tanks tracks perfectly.

What information made you go from Cool, I like this bubble tip to: I can barely see it to: i know it's a fish eater?

Without pictures nobody is going to be of great help. Different things get misclassified all the time. Most anenomes that are normally kept, are capable of eating a fish if the right size. Most don't. Also of note, strong, healthy fish don't get predated on easily.

Let's try to get an ID on it, that's the first step.

I thought this too. Until a basket ball sized anemone ate a hippo tank, a yellow tank, a mandarin, a coral beauty, and a few others. All healthy until consumed. Luckily back then the yellow tang was only $18. Dating myself.

Can be as you see any number of nems. Pics will be very helpful

Carpet anenome?
I think it was a long tentacle but to be honest, I was never 100% sure. This was a few decades ago. Eventually the thing made it back to the pet shop. I was a teenager at the time and it was such a bummer to lose all of my fish after I was so excited about getting an anemone. To add insult to injury, the fish were too big for the anemone. It would inevitably cough up some poor half digested tang. What a mess!

Edited to add that I waited >20 years before trying another anemone, which I also ultimately rehomed!

I believe your experience is the far exception to the rule.

My tangs used to sit ON my basketball sized Sherman.

Carpets are another story completely. Still not Hunting fish. Will eat them if given the chance.

I don’t doubt Petco would sell you the wrong anemone. However, just for reference, here is my BTA. It’s tentacles are extremely long and thin. Many have asked if it’s an LTA, but it’s definitely a BTA.

Seriously? That, cannot be a BTA. Right?

Best I can tell it is a BTA from the picture. Be patient and let it settle in to its new environment. I have one that looks similar to the one you posted.
