This is my first post (I moved it from the tank forum). I had a 75 gallon reef with a 40 gallon sump I broke down five years ago when I had my first kid. Now I have two boys, 4 and 5, and they said they want a fish for Christmas. Naturally I agreed and here I am. I set the tank up a week ago and let it run with sand and rock. Today I added a bottle of bio spira and a small cleaner crew so I can start feeding. Still need a light but black Friday is gonna change that.

Off to a good start!!
Take it slow and easy and that tank will reward your boys with a stunning display to look at

Ordered the AI Prime hd. Should be here tomorrow. Stoked

The bio isn't keeping up like I thought. Notable ammonia and Nitrite. The ammonia is gone after day three but 1.0ppm Nitrite is still there. I have changed 5 gallons of water the last two nights. Will test again tonight. Nitrates are around 10ppm

What would you call this? I really need a better test. They always look the same and not like any of the references.

The bio spira isn't as fast as I thought but I also didn't add fish which is suggested. I dosed with seachem stability today and am going to feed more.

I wonder about the snails and hermits I added but I still have everyone there and they act normal. I threw in some 5 dollar frags a few days ago which also are doing well.

About done with this cycle. Only lost one snail out of the crew.

Excellent start! Just a heads up, I have the exact same tank, you will need a nutrients export. The AIO's make it super hard to remove nutrients. Check out my build if you got some time!

I checked out your thread, very nice! Do you only mean phosphate as far as nutrient removal? I don't have that problem yet. I also only use rodi water and that will help. I have been thinking of a reactor.

Cycle complete! Fastest cycle I have ever had. Bio spira at the beginning with a cuc and kind of heavy feeding them. The last week I have been using seachem stability. Good stuff. Added a group of cerith snails and they mow through diatoms like a lawn mower.
