For those of you who have one.

People are not putting these on small tanks.

Is 600gph flow satisfactory for your large tank?

What do you so with the extra drain, shunt it to something else instead, say refugium?

Has anyone shunted the return back(after skimmer, refugium, etc) to feed the rollermat? How did that work out.

I like the integrated lid. Is that as cool as I think it is?

After you have changed a few rolls now. Is the roller mat still better than just having 4 filter socks at the beginning of your sump?

I looked at the other $400 roller mats, you seem to get a 100 small parts to assemble the filter. I am not doing that, I will build my own first. How was out of box assembly on the Theiling?

i have one on a 120gal, i built a sump for it that has a bypass if i ever ran over 600gph. but i have never opened it. i hated filter socks! i change the roll every 4-6 months. the lid keeps the smell down imo. when you pull the rolls they are a hot mess lol. tank has been up over a year with spurts of limited interaction lol...dont know if that would have been possible without this mechanical filtration.

I feed mine with a pump drawing water from the first section of the sump, so any additional flow just moves through the sump without mechanical filtration. I stopped using the lid because the clean and dirty sides of the roll would stay damp and get too heavy.

I'm having problems with my Rollermate, condensation forms on the lid and dripping weighs down the rolls of filter material. So the engine no longer keeps turning, pushing it manually it starts to turn but it makes noises like rubbing.

Do you have the same problem?

I have the bubble magus filter roll that is not enclosed. This allows the used / dirty filter paper to dry out and the motor is in a sealed chamber so no issues with condensation, it also comes fully assembled. If you have a bean animal overflow and too much flow for the filter you can close gate valve slightly and allow more water to flow down secondary drain. I change rolls every 2-3 months. It’s the budget choice at less than $200 but does a good job. Beats filter socks any day of the week.
