I soaked the paper towel in about 25% 5% hydrogen peroxide and left it for 10 minutes.

That's the turf algae, right? I don't know if H2O2 can fully kill that stuff. I have two snails with turf on them. I've taken them out, tirned the. Upside down and let them sit for minutes in H2O2 directly from the bottle. Still grows back
