These Two Are Like Rabbits

My pair of clownfish just had a batch hatch three nights ago. They have already started the mating dance tonight and the male is busy cleaning a piece of rock. I swear I don’t know where they get all the energy!

Nikon D-100 with Nikkor AF 28-105mm zoom. PC lighting with camera settings at ISO 400, f5.6 and SS at 100.

Here are the eggs the day before the hatch.

Nice shots as always NG beautiful clownfish too - when my maroon gets too big I hope to replace her with a pair of percs. I wish my GBTA would quit hiding under the rock it's crawled in to so maybe my clown will learn to host it.

Wow nice pics, i wish i could take pics like that....

I have a pair of black onyx clowns that lay eggs a few days after the last hatch like clock work. Sat night I shined a flashlight in the tank and there had to be a 1000 fry swimming around. I have experinced cyano blooms every couple weeks and then it dies back... Never thought about the fact it was all these fry getting in the filter and stuff and polluting the water.

Around July I am going to attempt to raise some of them...

What is the secret to taking those macro shots...

twon8 had his clowns spawning alot also, it was very cool to watch the eggs...although i hear its virtually impossible to get many, if any to survive into adulthood.

This is who I actually got my pair from a couple years ago.

Surfn why do you say they are impossible.. Most clowns are not that hard to raise as long as you know how to enrich rots and hatch bbs.

Awesome pics, the best I've seen I've raised a few of my occy's batches, the last one had 32 that reached sellable size. There's a book by Wilkerson that walks you through it. I plan on raising another batch on a month or so. As long as you follow the book, its not too difficult - just time consuming.

Nikonguy - If I remember correct you're in Michigan are you not? I'm looking for other species to try to raise, so if you're close enough to the border maybe we can work something out. There's a guy about 15 minutes from me who has Maroons spawn but he's never attempted to raise any. I'm interested to see what the differences are in raising them. I wish I had your photo skills, my pics of the larvae look horrible in comparison Here's a link with the thread I had on mireefers:

Weimers, I've been looking for someone that has the skill and time to try and raise a batch of these. If you are willing to come get them the day before they are due to hatch, I'll put a piece of clay pot in the area they normally lay and see if I can get them to lay on it so it can be removed. You can take em home and see what you can do.

I'd love to. I have to wait a few weeks as I'm getting married next Friday then going on my honeymoon. After that, I'm off for the summer because I'm a teacher, so I have no problem making a road trip. If you could get them to lay on a piece of clay pot or a tile that would be great. Also, I'll need about 2 gallons of water so that I don't shock the eggs too much with a rapid water change. I'm so excited
